Anyone OTR that takes wife along all the time.

Heck no. I can hardly stand her in a 2400 sq ft home let alone a closet on wheels.

 

The top bunk as storage will be out for us as she'll have to sleep up there. We learned quite some time ago we do not sleep together well, I've nearly given her black eyes in my sleep with my elbows and she sprawls all over the place stealing blankets, so we sleep in separate beds so there's no way we could share the bed of a sleeper. Space considerations were and still are the main reasons we're looking into a Class B expediting truck, those 100" bunks are really nice.

 

Been wondering how you guys who do take a rider work the sleeping with only one bunk. Had a recruiter say that he built a custom platform that he put up where the top bunk would go and put a mattress on it and viola, a bed! Any other suggestions?

 

Food grade liquid. Apple cider, grape juice, apple juice, etc. no I don't tell my girl that. I'm just kidding anyways.

 

Can I say ...ouch!!! Then space is more of a consideration, storage bags and totes..still the way to go. IF you must take your winter cloths with you, I'd put them in a pillow case and use them like an extra pillow. I don't know if either/both of you is short enough to get away with it, but a soft sided storage bag/box at the foot of the bed might work also. Unless you plan on doing flatbedding their is storage under the bunk.
When we moved out of the J.B. Hunt truck, my husband was completely surprised at exactly how much stuff I had packed into it. I filled up the bed of a pick-up truck, though granted it wasn't was well packed then. Just stuffed in boxes that his sister brought us, well not all, I had totes and storage bags.

@ Sixtyplus, my In-laws had a cab-over with room for only one in the "bed", they said they put a piece of plywood across the seats and layed a cot cushion on that. Instant bed. Did that for two year's back in the 80's, saved enough money to buy their retirement house's property... the modular home was paid for with the money from the sale of their other house, plus that saved money.

 

Mind if I ask what type of truck you're driving? Specifically the sleeper size. Are you and your wife able to bunk together?
