I am in Pa and deliver in the AM. But then headed to Elizabeth, NJ, get a preload headed to Minneapolis.
Question is.... what route through Pennsylvania would you take in a winter storm? I80 or I76
If the weather is bad, im parking. But what route would you take? So many hills in Pa. The whole state you are either going up... or down... theres about 2 flat areas the whole way!! Lol
Ive driven through alot of snow the last 2 winters... but mostly on flat land... any tips for the big hills?
When going down the big hills, no engine brake, right? So real slow, huh?
My company doesnt do chains... ive been wanting to get a set for emergencies but havent yet. So if its dicey, im parking .
routing, weather question....

I would run the turnpike, they are more likely to keep it clearer then 80. Just my opinion, and you know what they say about those.
ncmickey Thanks this. -
Turnpike has less altitude change adding to the misery issues and less lake effect. Also, you can drop down and run 70 to Indy 74 to either Quad Cities and 80 to the Avenue of the Saints or Bloomington and run up 39 to 90 and 94 and miss the lake effect through OH and IN and even around Chicagoland.
Storms to the south will affect you more, though.ncmickey Thanks this. -
LOL--its winter--that happens every year--tolls way to high to run pa pike all the way--and you have all wknd...78 outta elizabeth--into pa--33 north to 80 west--76--west when 80- turns into pike--71 south offa 80--30 west off 71--to IN 49--north to 94west--right thru chicago--94 to 41--back to 94--then 94 into the cities--did it for years and years--one toll-Del water gap on 78--

I have ezpass... tolls schmools
I askec 3 truckefs on the CB today. They all said the Turnpike. My trainer, who I keep in contact with, said 80...
I76 seems to have more parking....tucker Thanks this. -
well you seem to have your mind made up but i would drive 80
ncmickey Thanks this. -
You just want to be different.Skydivedavec and ncmickey Thank this.

I seriously do not have it made up... thats why I asked...why would you run 80? I tend it listen to my trainer.... he usually steers me right....

80 is shorter correct?
Sure 80 has a bit more in the way of hills but weather wise both routes are going to get hit about the same. There is plenty of parking along 80 as well. I would probably run 80 as well unless the difference in miles is minimal. Turnpike seems to have more problems with crashes in bad weather. -
well least miles major road will be best plowed
and while hilly it is straight for the most part
just let your own ability drive the truck
so everyone passes you....back down some more...leave distance
driving in snow is more the other guy doing something stupid
and you only end up in the mess following too close
it is 'olhand 2 lanes i am not partial too in PA
like is it 322 around State College that is only fit for a toboggan
