My friend, Louis who drives for TransAm (Ive been mentoring him since we met in Amarillo) has been sick the last couple of days at the Flying J in Carlisle PA. TransAm is looking for doctors note clearing him to drive. I guess he would have to call a cab and go to a doc-in-the-box nearby. The Knoxville (TN) Pilot at exit 398 is the only one I know with an onsite facility. Do you know of any others?? How have you all handled illness while on the road? The only time I was sick was back in October in Des Moines and my truck was in the Kenworth shop anyway so I convalesced at a Motel 6.

Today was a big bag of nothing. Drove all of 70 miles for dollars. Wasted day. Got up at 0330 went in a showered and left the TA at Columbia NJ and headed for Bayonne. Somehow I got off I 280 in downtown Newark, it was dark but got out of there ok. The meat place was right smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood and dodged cars (had to get one moved to clear the corner) but got there about 15 minutes late. There was another truck (Smith's) and a driver named Chris who I had met while he was with TransAm at the Olathe yard. Great to see him. I left and came back after they unloaded him. Jose, the guy unloading spoke Spanish so I spoke with him. He had me park the tractor on the sidewalk and had the trailer in the street and he unloaded me on the street. Great guy. Went back the same street I came in on and another car was kinda in the way, but another trucker came by and said "follow me, watch what I do." He got through! Gotta admit I was scared to do what he did. I was gonna try to back out onto the cross street but there was another car blocking where my tractor had to go. Police were called to assist me. Finally, I told them I am gonna try going as wide as I could go to make that corner curve and miss the car just like the trucker before me had. I made it too and didn't hit anything. Bayonne is still standing!! I thanked the officers and went on my way to my second stop on Ikea Dr in Elizabeth NJ. No door available so they asked me to leave and would call me back when a door became available. Ran down the turnpike and stopped at a service plaza for lunch and they called me while I was eating. Finished up and ran back, they got me in a door, but had to wait on paperwork. Dispatch gave me a load nearby with two and half hours left on my clock and I texted back, I gotta get a washout, deal with rush hour and hope they load me quickly and then find a place to park. "No disrespect intended Travis, but I cannot violate my 14." Two of the four got done and left 90 minutes on my clock. Guess what two? Deuces.

That's all I could find for your friend, George. Some WalMart and CVS Pharmacy stores also have walk in clinics, he might try calling them.

I am in Mill Hall, PA and still feel like the walking dead. My DM has thoroughly ticked me off this weekend and she doesn't know it yet but she will never get me farther northeast of PA again. Being delayed by weather with my last load totally screwed up the load I have making it way late. First thing my DM did to tick me off was before she left on Friday, she committed me to the preplan which shot this into a black hole. I told her Friday while I was driving that I had barely glanced at the preplan and it seemed reasonable, but I needed to sit down in an hour when I stopped and look at all the stops and the timing to make sure I could run it on time before I was comfortable committing to it. Go figure Friday night I was snowed in in Ohio which threw off my current delivery. We had a lot of the fleet out of service because of weather and no other trucks were available to move this load ((Hirschbach is half the size of TransAm)) and of course it's a Tyson load and Tyson is one of our high priority accounts. It's a 3 stop load, two stops in CT and final in Lynn, MA. Both yesterday and today they were supposed to find me a relay because I need some downtime to actually recuperate from this plague I have and am far from performing at my usual standard. I'm just not physically up to it, no matter how hard I try to push myself. Well they weren't able to find a relay and I need to deliver all the stops. But here is where it gets real screwy. The final is a real pain in the butt and basically if they don't get their freight tomorrow the whole load will end up rejected and have to go back. So when I get up in the morning I will skip the two CT stops and go straight to final and they will unload me. I intend to make it very clear that while I will ensure all seals are signed intact at each stop, that I WILL NOT be held liable for any freight claims that may occur. The receiver in MA will have to unload half the truck just to get to their freight all the way in the nose and then reload the other two stops on the truck. I refuse to be held responsible for them possibly manhandling and damaging another customers freight because they are insisting on getting their crap first now. I also told my DM today that not only do I expect to be paid for the extra miles I will drive in having to backtrack to CT after MA, but they are to pay me for this run on my check this Thursday even though cutoff for paperwork for the week is tomorrow night.

Logansport was crawling with TransAm drivers as usual when I was there yesterday. I did have a little fun playing slip and slide in the Pasquales drop yard which was pretty much a sheet of ice and I'm running super singles. And no drivecam. Ha. I only played for about 10 minutes before I mosied on back to Tyson to pick up my trailer.
