They may have never showed them shifting, but automatics came out in the mid 90's unless my CRS is acting upChinatown Thanks this. -

13 speed. You seriously think 'ol Claude couldn't shift????? The show truck (not the pilot episode) had a VT903 with a 13 spd.OLDSKOOLERnWV and "semi" retired Thank this. -
Allison made the 1st 4 speed automatic for up to 72,000 lbs. in 1971, the HT-740. In '73, Allison introduced the 1st fully automatic for trucks, the CLBT 750. ( Wikipedia) I knew a guy in the 70's with a gimpy left leg that had an Allison automatic in a Mack dump truck. It was nothing but problems.
