I carry chains, but they are hidden in my side boxes.
    Still in the original bags.
Been that way for 3 years.

I've never been pulled over for a check in over 4 years OTR.

Same with Tehachapi and Cajon in the rare time it snows there. I once asked a cop a Applegate why they put the chain law on so early, like before you even get to snow on the road. He said it was to get the four wheelers to slow down. Told him that doesn't work. LOL

That is policy now for I80 across wyoming. Just not worth the hassles of cleaning up all the idiots who do not know how to drive in snow and wind. They decided one closure is better than open close open close, wreck, close, open wreck, close....

Two weeks ago, the chain law was up on I-70 on the E. plains of Colorado, a 20 mile stretch of road, the same on parts of US 287 and I-76. Anyone who says you only need to carry chains W. of Denver should have seen the mess they were cleaning up out there

You can't fix stupid. All the idiots that ran off the roads.

As far as the law is concerned, you ONLY have to carry chains from Sept 1 to may 31 west of denver on I70, no matter what the weather is.

Actually, the signs says "CHAINS MSUT BE CARRIED SEPT. 1ST TO MAY 31 ST". No place on the sign does it specify where you have to carry them, it's only on websites and certain signs closer to the mtn's. Three times in the last 5 yrs, the chain law has gone up on I-70 or I-76 E. of Denver.

I dont care what the signs say, I care what the actual law says... you can not be ticketed for NOT having chains in colorado, unless you are west of denver, or slide off any OTHER road when the chain law is in effect. Safely parked east of denver, NO ticket, get caught west of denver without chains even if you are parked, ticket.

    bingo

You have to CARRY them (4) west of Denver on I-70 Sept to May.
You have to have them ON THE TIRES whenever chain law is in effect (big flashing signs) no matter where you are in Colorado.

not if your safely parked, because you are a driver that pays attention to what is happening ahead of you. Storms that cause the chain law to be issued are never a surprise.
