Last Friday I got a load, when I saw it at load board show 35k, not heavy for the rate. I called to the broker and said the weigh is 35k and rate $XX . I accepted and I got the rate confirmation with rate and weigh spooked. Then the shipper load 45K and I called to the broker to fix the rate and he said can't because they are paying for a full load.
What can I do before delivery?
    thanks for any idea

Nothing you can do,haul it or tell the shipper to get it of your truck.

You'll run into this a lot. It goes both ways. I've booked loads listed at 40k and end up being loaded with barely 30k. Do you call the broker and offer to run it for less? Of course not.

You should know how much a load is going to weigh before they load you. Confirmation sheet says 35k.. but once at the shipper they are going to load you with 21 - 22 pallets of salt or fertilizer.. you know thats going to come out between 40 - 44k from past experience. When I dont want to be loaded too heavy I lie to the shipper and tell them I cant scale more than 44k. Because if you let them, they will load everything they can on you.

Regarding adjusting the rate.. you do that BEFORE getting load. Shipper (Usually) knows exactly or very close estimate of what your load weighs. Ask before you get loaded.. what does each pallet weigh and how many? Pipe? How many pieces? Do the math.. if its not what was agreed.. call for a rate adjustment or cancel the load.

i ran into this a few times and while you can say all you can do is haul it or leave it, you do have a signed legal contract, for the rate and weight. From what ya are saying it would be no different showing up to get a legal load to only find out it is an oversize. That is what truck scales are made for, and leave the rest for the broker and shipper to work out, this is an old game allot of brokers still try to play. Nobody pays me to do nothing so we don't do nothing for free.

Brokers lie. Shippers lie. Bid every load like it's 45,000 lbs. Did you seriously bid less because it was listed as $35K?

Sure you can make a big stink. You can leave the shipper and scale and say you're over weight and you want more money for permits blah, blah, but really? Is it worth the time and bad blood? From now on, unless you know the freight, it's 45,000.

3 years back I had a 84 short hood small sleeper 359 with an aluminum trailer spread axle. Empty wt 28500. Lumber buyer was loading 11 packs on every truck, put 12 on mine. I did the math and ask to be paid for the extra pack, around 150.00, or please remove the load. They paid for it. Scaled in a steel mill in AL, waited, backed in and there was 4 pieces of plate that weighed 50100. My confirmation was for 45. I refused to load the 50. There responce was somebody is taking 50k today. Not I, was my response and left. Went to the curb pulled out the Ipad and found a better lighter load. If I. just plain get treated badly by broker, shipper or reciever, or the freight is not worth the effort you have to put in it, i remain business like, fullfill my fudiciary abligation, but never repeat the preformance without clarity first.

    Leave it on the dock.

Is this crap that hard? When you sign up for a load, if it's not agreeable, walk away from it.

If it doesn't match your confirmation sheet, walk away from it.

Get it off my truck, or pay me to haul it. I'll leave some #### and find another load.
