lots of little out of the way places to park down where you were

Feeling sad today....I went to visit with an old friend that has been going through chemo. While I was there her daughter told me that they will be taking her to a hospice tomorrow.
This has been a long week. It is the first time in quite awhile that the King hasn't been home for the weekend. The mess in Kentucky has thrown all of the schedules off.Panhandle flash and passport220 Thank this. -
that sucks Queenie.
At least my dad got to do hospice at home, I think that helped us all a bit.HometimeQueen, passport220 and Panhandle flash Thank this. -
Godbless to your friend Queenie. Glad your friend will have the blessing of time to come to terms and spend time with family.
With my girl here in her beloved Philippines. Been eating a lot of Mexican food here. Mexican food with a Pinoy spin. We are going back to Thailand in a few days. Ms. Passport enjoys Thailand which is good because I think it is a nicer place to vacation than the Phils. They say "It's more fun in the Philippines" but by more fun they must mean more power outages, internet outages, lower standards in hotels and offline ATMs.
Glad to see other than a few breakdowns, load mix ups and a Mexican stand off with family pets all are doing well.
Hope you get up and running quick Panhandle. Good on you Jaso for getting the Clubhouse North up and running!
I am starting to think about the road and will start this week on putting together my employment plan for the spring.
Take care, be well and safe!dennisroc, Panhandle flash and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
Or as a TransAm company driver, one gallon of coolant, plus two gal of windshield washer fluid runs the bill up to $25 that TransAm will pay for, ask for a receipt and get the parking for free. I never actually did it in California but do it all the time in New England at the TA or Petro.HometimeQueen, gntorres61 and .honeybadger. Thank this.

Hello Passport , and prayers for your friend HTQ and a shout out to everyone else on here. Hope all is going well for everyone. From what I have read , seen on the news and talking with family and friends sure looked like a bad winter. It got up to 50 the other day here in Korea and felt great , I am so ready for spring.
Passport where you at in the Philippines ? I was there at home in Baybay , Leyte for Christmas and new years and got lucky , just one 2 hour blackout in 17 days. My beer in the frige even stayed cold.
My wife is going home maybe first week of April , she works for the on base school system and it is spring break. I cant get away at that time but probably towards the end of April I will be going somewhere alone , have not decided where yet. Any Ideas ??? I have been to Bangkok but no Pattaya beach , have heard good and bad reviews. Have you been there ???
Enjoy Thailand and don't eat too many of those BUGS , hahapassport220 and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
Hiya Dennis! Glad to see you are still part of this thread's family! Unfortunately, I have been spending too much time in crowded, dirty, Metro Manila while my girl visits some government agencies to process some administrative stuff. You know the Philippines, everything needs some kind of government stamp or clearance. That is why my attitude about the Phils is a bit sour right now, I am much happier and easier to get along with, when I am out in a province like Leyte!
I found a hide out in an area called Teacher's Village in Quezon City near the University of the Philippines. University setting with a lot of coffee shops, book stores and cafes. Nicer than most areas of Manila, yet still super cheap by American standards.
Plate of Peri-Peri Chicken in Teacher's Village, total cost = 125 p or about $2.82 usd
I have heard it said, any foreigner who hangs around Thailand will wash up in Pattaya sooner or later. Yes, I have been many times. It is too crowded and crazy from me to hang around it much any more, but I still often stop there on my way to Koh Chang. Plenty of low cost hotels, motorbikes and beer. I take a bus from the airport to Pattaya and rent the motorbike that I drive down to Koh Chang there. Monthly bike rental is about $80, load up my stuff on the bike and go!
The crazy Songkran water fight festival takes place in mid-April so if you come at the end of the month, you should be clear of that. April is a good time to go to Pattaya, it is less crowded and hotel prices are low. The dramatic drop in the Russian rubble has cleared out nearly all of those tourists.
Ms. Passport and I went to Pattaya last year and had a great time. It is known for its crazy nightlife but there are a lot of fun daytime activities also. We enjoyed the Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Phratamnak Hill park, nearby Koh Larn.

A hotel I recommend in Pattaya, if you can catch it at the discounted price is Manita Boutique Hotel:
Found here on Agoda: http://www.agoda.com/manita-boutique-hotel/hotel/pattaya-th.html
it is listed at over $30 right now, but they will drop it down to around $20 usd per night in the low season, starting end of April.
If you do decide to go, let me know, and I will be happy to give you a lot more detailed travel info.
Can you ever eat too many healthy and nutritious bugs?
Take care and enjoy!Last edited: Mar 10, 2015

Thank you everyone. I finally just broke down and had a good cry with another old friend this evening. It has really affected a lot of us in our town. This lady has been part of the fabric of our town for many years....her illness is like someone just cutting a square out of our community quilt. The love and devotion shown by her husband has touched everyone and today her main concern was that we all take care of and be there for her Tom.
gntorres61, passport220 and Panhandle flash Thank this.
