After finally getting a shower and a little sleep I'm feeling like a civilized human being again. But now those thoughts are creeping into my head: what am I doing here? What have I gotten myself into? Am I really cut out for this?
Being already in possession of my permit, I was allowed some time in the sims yesterday, and that time has me feeling like such a useless idiot. I gotta give wally credit for his efforts at helping me, but trying to move two arms and a leg in sync with each other and reacting to situations in the sim is really overwhelming my mind. I don't think I'm gonna run home to mama over one bad day in the sim, but my resolve is really being pushed to the limit right now. Especially knowing in a few days time I'll be locked into an obligation with prime to the tune of $3,700.

Try and relax, the first few days there are a wild ride trying to get everything filled out and rushing from one person or office to the next just to wait.
It'll make sense and start to calm down once you hit Friday and the weekend. Just remember, they do give you that one week free look period to see if you like it or not. That clock doesn't start until the day you step foot on your trainer's truck.
Congratulations on getting your permit and being that much further ahead of the class. Just read everything you can, study the pretrip every minute you have, find a driver and ask them to walk you through the pretrip on there truck, remember that you are on the world's longest interview that will last 10-16 weeks, and most important thing of all, have fun!
Good luck to you sir.Alec Trevelyan, FullMetalJacket and Chucktshoes Thank this. -
Day 2 and we still have a really long line for the interview. Guess I'll just get those CBT's done. I guess I passed the physical because I now have a DOT med card.

I finally met him today in the cafeteria.

I went through the exact same thing. I came very close to quitting the night before my drop dead date. Once I passed it and knew I was on the hook for the contract it got a lot easier for me to focus on learning what I needed to learn instead of thinking about pulling the escape hatch. Sticking with it was the best career decision I have made. Once you get over the self doubt hump, everything else moves into place. Trucking isn't for everybody not because the job itself is beyond their ability but because the nature of the job is beyond their mind's ability to handle. If you set your mind right, you will do well. Push through your doubts and fears, focus on the task at hand and you will succeed. You got this, if you want it.darthanubis, texasbbqbest, FullMetalJacket and 1 other person Thank this.

Feeling better now that I'm done with all the day one stuff. Just gotta get the permit swapped over to MO. I'm rooming with a guy who's been here a week and he said there's a shortage of trainers right now. I figure if I run into that, it means more time to work on shifting and maneuvering.

Long lines, lotsa waiting, plenty of frustration...
Do y'all remember reading that you're being constantly evaluated?
What do you suppose the receiving clerks window is like at 4AM at a real busy distribution center? Not only that, they're going to expect y'all to act professionally with a smile on your face, and to look reasonably presentable to boot!bcountry and Chucktshoes Thank this. -
Hmmmmmm....seem to remember someone like this?
Oh, yeah.....that was you in a former life!
Chucktshoes Thanks this. -
Well I wanted it, and I got it.

Gonna be alright.
Many of us were overwhelmed at first, but we survived. Won't be the only time, either. Comes with the territory. But, you will learn.
Completely normal for something new that is this involved. It's a lot to take in in a short period of time. Serious business, here.
Keep deligent, give it your best effort....... and you'll be OK.
Chucktshoes, Alec Trevelyan and bcountry Thank this.
