And remember, if there are 10 in line and 9 are complaining and being rude to the clerk, and 1 is being professional, some of the time, that clerk can pull some strings and get the 1 out much faster.

So it might be reasonable to surmise that someone biotchin', complainin' and being a general pain in the arse in the long, slow lines at orientation might not be headed for a truck? Something' fer the new grasshoppers to think about while they're waitin',...

Well I had a feeling something was wrong with my permit, and I was right! IL screwed up printing my permit, so I had to take the tanker test again at the DMV because it wasn't on my permit. And I had to pay the full $32.50! Oh well, I guess it could've been worse. Other than that I'm not feeling half bad right now. I'm getting all this stuff done, things are coming together, I feel like I'm getting somewhere. Hell I even feel ready to try round 2 vs the simulator!

This has been the toughest, most stressful job interview/orientation process I've ever been through, but I've survived everything it's thrown at me so far. 5 hr greyhound layovers, long slow moving lines, background checks/interviews, and I'm still going. Maybe I can get it together after all not just in this new career, but in life in general.

Having not much else left to do, I finally went in for round 2 with the simulator and I think the 10 speed and I are starting to become friends now. I guess maybe my problem last time was having not slept for over 30 hours and all this other stuff preoccupying my mind. My downshifting still needs work but it's coming to me. Funny how sometimes you walk away from something giving you trouble and then when you come back later it all falls into place almost magically.

Also keep in mind you may have been mashing the clutch all the way to the floor most rookies do and it is a hard habit to break. That will invoke the Clutch brake and will make shifting really difficult. All you need to do is depress the clutch about 2-3 inchs and it will shift fine. Need to practice that as when you get in a real truck you will start having issue's shifting.
    Hope this helps

I hope the new sims are better than the old ones in the respect. With the old ones you had to use full pedal to shift. I hated those ###### things.

Actually the first night Wally kept telling me I wasn't pressing it enough. I knew about not wanting to go all the way and I was trying to do it too fast so I was barely pushing it. Eventually he told me for the purposes of the sim to go ahead and mash it just to try to get the rhythm down.

Today instead of trying to be the fastest shifter in the west I just tried to get a steady rhythm going and it all started coming together for me. The only noteworthy problem I had this time was in the city scenario I somehow kept killing my engine when I stopped. I kept having to restart my truck at every stoplight and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.

On an unrelated note, they serve some mighty tasty shrimp at the Millennium! Bcountry you find anything good?

Yeah, it does take some practice to get the timing down, it will all click soon, just keep at it. ONce you get your Instructor have him take you to the driving pad/streets and just practice the take off in 2nd or 3rd gear untill it clicks. I had one student who I took out there for 2 days 4 hours a day untill it clicked, also make sure you are pulling a trailer when you practice this as the truck will handle totally different than when bobtailing. About the above student, by the time we were ready to leave the yard his leg was so sore he could hardly shift LOL. But it is good practice for when you get in the stop and go traffic situation.
