Do the big ltl companies have a maximum age limit for drivers? How old are some of your oldest drivers?

No maximum age limit for any LTL company that I'm aware of. As long as you are physically able to do the job, you should be good to go. We have drivers in their 70's.

I've got another question I'd like to toss into this thread.

I'm in a very similar position, just got my year of exp and got a "property damage" accident for getting stuck in some mud at a truck stop diner :|

I started doing linehaul for my company a few months ago and really enjoy being home every day, working 10-11ish hours and making the same that I was OTR.

What are the hours like for LTL? I've heard some guys say they work 12-14hrs daily and sometimes over their 14. I wouldn't mind doing this, because the pay and benefits are much better than what I'm getting now. But I'm young and want to still have some semblance of a social life (I know, with trucking that sounds laughable :D )

Oh and I forgot to ask, how long does it take to get on a day time run? I don't have a huge problem with nights, but I'd rather drive days. Or at least get started while the sun is still up.

    Thanks for any answers, fellas.

Good luck getting a solar powered run as a rookie.. I'm sure it's happened, but it is not the norm. That is the whole point linehaul drivers deal with all the crap, to get a long daytime run.

LTL is almost a 14 hr daily routine..Especially if dock work is involved. You will have no social life. So pick if you want to make "ok" money or have a balance between both.

Varies at each carrier, Broken down to each location varies even more. 1 Question- 5,000 different answers about the day time runs.

I've ran close to my 14 hours doing P&D. Never over. OT after 8 is nice, Just not worth it after 14 hours. No good to anyone or yourself and no doubt. I'd get a friendly meeting with a couple of folks and would be a headache. My normal day is 8-10 hours. 12-14 hours when SHTF during Peak.

Hourly places like to keep track of payroll. It's good in a way, Terrible for the person just bought a new $75,000 GMC 3500 with crocodile leather and have 6 baby mommas.

Good for you making the same as OTR

Speaking in general and i'll never understand OTR.

OTR is different breed of animal as a company driver, Lots of Free work and Baby Sitting Equipment.
Have to ask yourself, Free Time Invested and not being home. Is it worth it for $800-$1500 a week as a OTR Company driver?
