1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I too am a small company looking to hire good quality drivers, and would like feedback on what really make a driver stay on long term. I see there is a lot of turnover in this industry and I am willing to offer better pay if this would keep my turnover low. I know benefits, good equipment, decent miles, good dispatchers are all important. Am I missing anything?

There's lots of companies I could have signed on with as a newbie paying between 60-80k to start. I am sure the more experienced guys know of those companies too and are working there or similar already. You can work for more than .40 cpm at a mega carrier like Maverick for example. Why not pay hourly or percentage? Much more attractive than cpm.

I have recently changed all of my ads to up to 0.48. I have considered percentage and looking into what the median is for that to give to drivers.

    UKJ Thanks this.

Stop with the up to mumbo jumbo. It may not be the case with your company but that usually means jump thru hoops and stand on your head to get up to something.

Pay a fair wage and be up front about it.

Well no not exactly. We give quarterly raises, bonuses based on performance and inspections. When we talk to people we are up front. Yes we check mvr and dac reports so if they have something bad on their report then they can still get up to a higher amount within months and probably more. I've even gave a raise to someone after just a month because would always drop/pickup on time, etc. We also have company events and looking to take cruise with employees this year. Just trying to find those great drivers. That's what I asked what it is that's maybe not attracting them and thanks. I will take the up to out.
