I read about a bunch of companies where you can work for them and then also draw from your GI bill? $1,100 a month. Does this mean that you are exhausting part of your 36 months of your 9/11 GI bill? Or is this money separate from the 9/11 funds and drawn from the VA itself?
Thanks

One of the guys in here told me that you are not charged months off your 36 months of benefits from the VA but I haven't started with anybody yet so I am not 100% sure.

The money you're talking about is from the Montgomery GI Bill. You're considered in a OJT status & that $1100 is paid directly to you "to cover training".
The Post 9/11 GI Bill is paid directly to the school with the exception of BAH. Depending on where you live it can be $1000-$2000est a month.
For a degree the Post 9/11 GI Bill is a better deal as it pays all school costs & you receive a housing allowance. -
Well I transferred my GI Bill to the 9/11. used part of that to pay for my school. I just see a bunch of compaines advertise the $1,100 a month form the VA or the 9/11. Just curious if anyone has done it. And if it really depleted your 36 months of 9/11 GI Bill.

As you spend time in this industry, you'll learn that there'll be several answers given to any question you ask... some will be credible, most will be a load of ####. You gotta figure out how to separate the two.
I didn't use the GI Bill until well after I got my CDL, so I really don't have an answer for you. But I would venture to guess that the VA themselves could give you a definitive answer on that, and one whose credibility might be a little less questionable. -
You can transfer back to the MGIB through the VA. The $1100 does reduce your available months. Remember, you're receiving that money because you're considered in OJT; training/learning a trade.
MGIB is good for vocational schools as the Post 9/11 won't cover those. OJT is considered vocational.
If you're in California, state unemployment will pay for your CDL.
BTW, I'm an active duty Gunny in the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton. I retire next year so I've looked into this. -
I have used it for Cdl school and then OJT with Melton.
You start with 36 months of gi bill because even if you go to a four year college you wouldn't collect 48 months worth of benefits. It comes out to 36 months with summers off assuming you go to school full time.
I went to Roadmaster Truck Driver School. Even though it was a one month school you are charged 3 months against your 36 months.
Which means you graduate with 33 months left. Use 12 months of OJT training you'll have 21 months left on your GI Bill.
Its nice having that money especially if you are coming from a career where you made more then $35,000.
(FYI). For some reason I think we all start with 34 months not 36 but I am not 100% sure.
Let me know if I confused everyone or if you understand. Good luck!
