Trucker struck and killed by state trooper

They do seem to carry an exemption card, don't they...?

 

We are only allowed to go 15 mph over the posted speed limit like if the speed limit is 65mph we can drive 80mph but when you pass 90mph or more you are wrong nd driving recklessly just like anybody else.

 

IIRC, that stretch of road has a paved shoulder. so it's beyond me why this incident ever occurred in the first place barring a suicide action.

I had already read that also. But I learned first hand a long time ago not to take everything written in news articles as fact.
More often than not, it's later revealed how inaccurate their initial reports really are.

 

I wonder if this was one of those situations in which someone was so engrossed in something he could allow a train to hit him? Was he looking at a phone?

 

He was struck by a State Trooper in a Chevy Tahoe. No train involved.
Also, he supposedly was facing oncoming traffic (walking N/B in S/B lane).
In the general location he was struck, there's a fairly sharp curve on US 65, so I'm wondering if that curve had any bearing in this fatality.

 

Of course he wasn't hit by a train.

 

If you are not responding to a call, you shouldn't be "allowed" to exceed the speed limit. If you ARE in the habit of exceeding the speed limit, writing citations for speeding for anything closer to the speed limit than you run the cruiser is hypocritical. For example, that officer who habitually runs down the road +15 because he's "allowed" to...and then pulls you over and cites you for +10 is a #### hypocrite. If you want to write +10, don't drive +10.

Responding to a call, just get there ASASP (as soon as SAFELY possible). If that means running a little fast, so be it. If excess speeds are required, lights & possibly even sirens (if possible) should be used. I understand there are times you can't use lights and/or sirens...and in those situations, keep the speeds within reason.

Not responding to a call? Don't speed...posted speed limit should apply same as with any other vehicle on the road.

 

I'm not anti Leo but I do disagree with their gross misconduct of excessive speeding. It is not warranted
