I went through the phone screen with SYGMA today, and have an interview set-up for when I'm home at the end of the month with an HR person and the transportation supervisor. Anyone been through the hiring process recently with them? Just curious what to expect at the interview and remainder of the hiring process and such. Thanks!

Other than they are owned by Sysco and are a PITA to deal with when delivering...they might be good to work for though.

So for the sake of future Google searches, I will post an update with my experiences in the hiring process with SYGMA Network thus far, as I was unable to find much.

The interview was with an HR manager and the transportation supervisor. It last maybe 30-45 minutes, and was mostly them telling me about the position, and how difficult it is. They asked me about some gaps in employment, and gave me an opportunity to ask any questions I had. They said they'd have a decision within a day or two (which they said they would expedite as I am currently on home time from my OTR gig). The HR manager called me later that day and invited me in for a road test.

Road test was extremely easy-though I was nervous, as I've been driving an automatic for the past six months. Turns out shifting is like riding a bike. Road test consisted of a thorough pre-trip, hook and unhook, 3-4 mile trip around the industrial area, and then a sighted back. It was in a day cab and 48 foot trailer, which was weird after only ever driving 53 foot reefers and huge sleepers. Passed with flying colors.

After that, I met with the HR manager, and I will go in on Wednesday to do the prehire paperwork, and that evening I will do a physical abilities test at a local clinic. They will schedule me for a DOT physical and drug test after I give my notice to my current company and return home. Had they been able to schedule it while I was on home time, they probably would have.

Anyhow, that's my experience with their hiring process so far. Everyone I've talked to at the company has been extremely friendly and seem to enjoy their job. I know the work will be tough, but I am looking forward to doing something other than holding a steering wheel for 10 hours a day. Plus it'll be nice to be home more than once a month.
