I made my point of view very clear.

You dont have to like it any more then I have to like your point of view. But as long as we have multi-national drivers on this forum, you will show some restraint regarding your comments about 'foreign-born' American drivers. I dont feel that is too much to ask.

You do have a recourse, and that is to go above my head. We all have to answer to someone. If they side with you,.. then I have no choice but to ignore what you say. But as long as I have a say,.. this is where I stand and I will stand firm.

I will do that and also tell you that I think redneck is a derogatory term against southern people.

I happen to be a proud thick headed redneck,.. so complain away. I live in the south son.

Personally I would have more issue with 'Ego Maniac',.. but I digress,.. (Sigh)

Would it kill bridge and overpass engineers to build with enough clearance in the first place? This is a new bridge. Why isn't it 14-15 feet high? Holy cow, Chicago.

I think the news article said it was GOING to be higher when completed...next step was to dig out underneath to lower the road surface once the overpass is complete. Even so, if the bridge is too low, and it is OBVIOUSLY marked as such, WHY would a truck driver attempt to make it through? And for THAT MANY in such a SHORT period of time? Hell, it averages out to a new crash every 1.6 hours! Barely enough time for the wreckers to pull 1 out and haul it off and another is wedged in there. Seriously? Companies must be searching for talent at the shallow end of the gene pool...and then promoting those mental midgets to "trainer" to teach the next bunch of block heads how to do the job.

WOW! That statement says a lot about the trucking industry. If you choose to drive a truck that is 13'6" high, IT IS YOUR JOB to know where you can or can not go. I have been over 15 high for more than a million miles, where would i be in my career if I said "they shouldn't build bridges that I can't fit under, its not my fault I hit it"...?
    I fear for Americas future.

Unforunately this is nothing new... and especially in our industry. Pa and Nj have tons of bridge strikes every week.

Chicago is an old city... much like Ny, Pa and Nj. As such many old bridges go backa few and dont have the clearance. You would think with clearly marked signs... I've even seen bright neon lights.... yet people simply dont pay attention and hit them.

How do you get drivers to pay attention and take notice? Wish I knew a simple answer.

Park a couple cops at each end to nab blind truckers before they hit the bridge, they could easily pay the overtime with the ticket revenue (not to mention all the sales tax revenue from the businesses affected by the road closure).

Hell, at the rate they're hitting the blasted thing, cop would be busy with 1 reading him the riot act when another would squeeze through and smack it.

You can't fix stupid...not even with a huge fine and heavy police presence.
