There is no iteligent reason to put straps out side rail on this load. This guy is dumb or a rookie. Your comment comes off as you dont think it any big deal? We should all feel bad that the driver is either under trained or should be closing doors and puting padlocks on.

Haha 18 straps, 11 chains, and I have two boxes with me that can't freeze. Yikes!!! Thank you though with the rig. It's not fully "mine" yet, but hopefully shortly. I love her. HahaRugerfan Thanks this. -
You spelled intelligent wrong.. That wasn't very intelligent or maybe your just dumb..
As you can see people make mistakes.. That doesn't make them dumb, unless you really are dumb??? Just playing
Seriously tho what's the big deal if that is how he wants to run them and it's not illegal to do so (I don't flatbed anymore so I don't know)... I mean if it's legal too do then that doesn't make it dumb or a rookie that is his preference.. Now if it was illegal to do then that still doesn't make it dumb that makes him un-knowledgeable to the rules... So therefore if something is legal then how can one be under trained?? If it's legal then maybe he got trained to do it this way.. Who knows!!???
Now if that being said out of pure common sense I never ran my straps outside of the rails unless I had a load which I couldn't.. Even when I did have a wider load sometimes I could still run the strap inside the rail and overtop... So you could argue he lacks common sense for potential problems down the road like a side swipe or something.. Other then a side swipe (either moving or parked) the straps wouldn't be bothered that's the only thing that would cause an issue with straps on the outside.. -
I'm on my mobile phone so the spelling review is difficult.
You made the point exactly. You said it. Common sense, Its missing. -
As you stated you don't flatbed anymore.
As step deck, flatbed, and yes specialized. (RGN) yes I missed some so what.
With the recent accidents happening. (I-35 bridge strike). http://www.kwtx.com/home/headline...own-Highway-297669591.html?device=phone&c=y
I as well as other who do haul open deck freight. Really don't need more eyes on us than we already have.
Once you get into this field of open deck. You need to be more on your "A" game, than doors and padlocks type loads.
If a company is showing them this method, they need to stop. I don't want or need a DOT cop pulling me in just to check every inch of my straps for damage.
Because a handfull have been shown wrong methods of securement.
The standards for open deck are and should be held to a higher level than box units.
Yes their are times when I have my straps outside the rails. Its because the load is also.
Work smarter not harder, someday it WILL save your life.skootertrashr6 Thanks this. -
On my older 96" Transcraft you physically cannot put the straps inside the rub rails. The welded supports for the rub rails are directly above the fixed winches. Also, the edge of the deck is sharp and the edge of the rub rail is rounded, as not to cut the strap. If I were to put the straps through the rub rails on a load which was narrower than the deck, then it would (and has) cut the strap. Conversely, if you were to place the straps through the rub rails on a load which overhangs the rail (which happens on my little 'ol 96'er often) then you stress the welds on the rub rail outward, which is much worse than putting inward pressure on them. The pic looks like a Western trailer, which a lot of don't come with rub rails. I'm sorry that you have your preconceived notions that all trailers with rub rails must inherently have the straps ran through them. Depending on the load and the equipment this may help, but it isn't necessarily required or possible.zenaddler Thanks this.
