I was but then I decided against it, the crappy school they sent me to and talking to the drivers there made me reconsider my options. Probably a blessing in disguise to be honest.

So you quit a $20/hr job that you had for a few weeks and passed on a fully a paid CDL to go back to school and take the same course for 5 months.......and you have a young infant at home? Just trying to keep up is all. I can't wait to see what next month brings.
Carry on. -
In a course at a state college 2 months 320 hours. Wish it was as cheap as I hear TN schools are. Just over 2k here. Still better than the local Road Master.
-
No I have a 6 year old, we have enough to money to where I don't have to worry about that job. If is I was desperate for cash I wouldn't be looking to trucking.
Like I said though, it's a blessing in disguise IMO I get better training, better job prospects right out of school, & can leverage it for majoring in Suppy chain management which more aligns with my goals to broker. I don't plan to retire trucking. -
Found a decent looking flatbed company on Craigslist called Modular Transportation. The ad said they take students from accredited schools.
Quotes from their site:
"Our drivers are paid a percentage of the gross revenue from each load they pull. You will earn from 23% up tto 26% based on experience and performance. The average is around $970 and you can average upwards of $1100 per week or more!"
"As unbelievable as it sounds, Modular pays for your health, dental, vision, and life insurance! This includes dependents! This means no payroll deductions for these!"
Not sure how to integrate that into your list, but it seems to be a company worth considering for those that want to get into flatbed and need benefits.

Other than the starter companies, I'd have to disagree. .45 X 2,400 = $1,080 + whatever extra pay like stop pay, short haul pay etc. average 12 on 2 off and 9 hours a day average you get about 54 hours a week. $1,080/ 54 hours = $20 an hour straight time.
No person with at least 2 years of experience should be working for less than .45 unless they get significant pay for on duty non driving work. You could go to a union company and make 85% of full pay which is around .63 I think. Quite a few of those companies have been advertising heavily for drivers where I live. Times are good in our industry. Hell, even a bottom feeder like Swift is up to .36 to start. -
Found another company: H O Wolding. They claim UP TO .48/mile, $51k/year fleet average, tuition reimbursement, and home every weekend. Can't find their starting pay.
More details here: http://drivewolding.com/pay-and-benefits/UKJ Thanks this. -
HO Wolding starts newbies at .32 cents at 1 year you're at .35. From what I've seen they have achievable quarterly bonuses that raise the pay up a few cents. There's a thread on the favorite trucking company section about them. The drivers there seem happy.
Check page 114 post #1133 the pay question answered not long ago. -
They also pay practical miles.

Last Friday 3/27 is the 13th week of 2015. That is 25% of the year or the first quarter.
Take your YTD gross from that check and divide it by the number of days you worked. That gives you a per day pay rate to compare companies.
Here is mine for Superior Carriers.
23178 miles
1st quarter gross 13500
Days off 38
Days worked 53
13500/53=255 per day.
