Nonsense. Not sure about Florida, but I had to prove I knew how to check to make that thing safe AND prove I could drive it in both the city and highways before my tester stamped my permit into a license. Most jobs hire you once you've established you have the basics THEN you get more training after the fact.

Things sure have changed in the last almost 20 years.... On my test, I had to do the pre-trip which was VERY inclusive, I had to name every single item on the test sheet and explain what/why I was checking. My wife took her test for her class B a few years ago and she asked me to help her with her pre-trip. Since we worked for the same employer, she'd meet me there Saturday mornings when I got back from my line haul run and I'd help her with her maneuverability (I made her maneuverability course MUCH smaller than the state, so she aced that) and her pre-trip. I used my old test sheet for the pre-tri to help her get it down. We worked for a few weeks on that and she knew her stuff. She goes for her test and starts her pre-trip and the tester immediately starts telling her that this or that wasn't part of the pre-trip test and why she was checking things wasn't either??!! Since our company was paying for everything I wasn't going to cause a fuss but can't help but wonder why the standards got so lax.. Especially since most companies consider training to be team operation after a couple of weeks. That is the thing I would like to see changed. How can someone be in training when the trainer is in the bunk sleeping??!!
