I was recently watching a YouTube video, (yeah with that YouTube again,) and I saw a driver say that he didn't graduate High School. He claimed that he made above $50k a year and was home 2/3 days a week. Pretty good if there is any truth to his claim.
So my question is, is there a requirement for a High School Diploma or a GED?
I got a friend who is still in High School, but he will not be able to graduate, since he needs 100 Credits and needs to pass his Math CAHSEE. I told him to get his GED, but he insist that he won't be able to pass it, because he struggles with even the Basic Math.
I'm just asking, because maybe I could help my friend get started in trucking along with me.
Is High School Diploma or GED required?

If your friend is still in high school, that means he is 18? I don't think many trucking companies will hire him until he is 23. There might be exceptions with different carriers. No matter what make sure your friend gets that diploma it is extremely important.

I'll be sure to let him know of those sites lol, but he has already quit on even trying. He told me he tried the CAHSEE tests 3 times already. The closest score he got was 148 by guessing most of it, out of the 150 passing I believe. So he got pissed off lol.

SADLY & UNFORTUNATELY, many doors will be slammed shut without a high school diploma or GED.

Yeah he is 18. I told him to ask the School District, and see if he could still go for his High School until he turns 19-20. The way I figured is, he should make a deal or something to get those 100 Credits out of the way. Then see if the District can just slide the Math CAHSEE, since he did pass English and got pretty close to passing Math.Chinatown Thanks this.

I've never heard of a trucking company that asks to see a high school diploma or GED. Some guy posted he was asked one time, but I'm doubtful. It's not important for truck driving. I've known many drivers that were high school dropouts and on the applications they check "yes" they graduated. Just figure out when you should have graduated and use that date as the graduation date. Google and buy a fake diploma online. My cousin didn't attend even one day of college, but landed an upper management job in a textile mill by saying he graduated from college and had a diploma to back it up. He retired from the mill years later.
FijiIndianBoy and TruckDuo Thank this. -
Thank you, yeah I might suggest this to my friend. Hard part will be to figure out a place where he can get that "temporary" diploma lol, and not get ripped off. If that driver can drive a tanker without a diploma, then it shouldn't be that much of a difference for my friend either.
Another thing, wouldn't this come up when they do your background check? -
Not unless you're applying for one of those special jobs hauling explosives or military trucking jobs. Hauling produce out of California or general freight it won't matter.

Tell him to work in a warehouse, maybe receiving/shipping. Then he can save up, get his CDL and apply to Companies when he is 23-24. I say receiving/shipping because it has kinda given me a perspective on how things work on the other side.
Lepton1 Thanks this.
