I have orientation Monday with JB HUNT. The choice I have is between them and Arnold transport. I'm leaving the oilfield life for now to many hours cut and pay cuts. With that said I'm putting my CDL to use and I loo forward to this. I just hope this was a good move any advice.

Why not tankers; much more annual pay in tankers.
Will you still live in Texas? Groendyke Transport is a good outfit.

If you want local/home every day, check Coastal Transport.
Some companies say they want 12 mos. experience, but still bend their hiring rules for high quality applicants.

I've read in other threads that if you're a rookie, you should stay on your first job for at least a year, otherwise you run the risk of getting screwed on your DAC. But reading this thread, I come away with the impression that I might be able to sign onto a tanker outfit in less than 8 months. Exactly how could I make that happen, assuming I was looking for a local gig?

It will go on your DAC, but as long as you don't abandon the truck, have a major wreck, or get fired you won't be screwed. It will simply say under your employment history on your DAC that you were employed by that company.
