good tanker companies for a newbie

Prime Inc will get you your CDL and train you on tankers, then choose to be a company driver or lease. Based out of Springfield, MO., You will not have to relocate. Good company and good pay.

Trimac Transportation($65K-$100K+per yr.)
Groendyke Transport
CTL Transportation(also have their own CDL school)
SVTN
Superior Carriers

Some of these hire from select schools. Some may have "experience required" but still apply because they all hire new CDL grads on a case by case basis.

Very good information about Schneider Bulk tanker training. Intense, excellent training.

This is why tanker drivers make such good money; not everyone can hack it. I went through tanker school with Tankstar and it wasn't anywhere close to being this good, but I still made $65K my first 12 months solo.

Those tanker companies will appreciate you more if you either already have or have applied for, TWIC ID Card and a passport.

 

Whatever you choose take your time sir, it's hard enough learning to drive with regular freight, then you throw Mr. Sergio in the mix and it can get ugly real quick. I tell you this, if your a go getter and don't mind a little physical work you will love it, best of luck to you.

 

It's not so much the cents per mile with tankers, but the accessorial pays. I made $.36 cpm and took 4 or 5 weeks off every year because I have a home in Beijing I enjoy spending time in with my wife and children. The drivers that worked the full 12 months made $72K on average.

With refrigerated or van, it may take sometimes a few hours to load/unload, but with tankers the average is 1 hour load/1 hour unload, then rolling down the road again. Over a year, this adds to some serious money.

 

Pretty sure Schneider has a terminal right close to St Louis in Edwardsville.

 

Definitely give Schneider a look, my brother in law went to work there right out of school and wound up spending 6 years there making nearly $85k/year when he left for a weekends off job. I went reefers first and made less than $35k in my first year due to bad loads and extremely long load/unload times. Now I'm the one considering jumping back to tankers.
