The answer to your question:
Its out there, he was in a wreck. Whether or not a company he go's to digs deep enough to find it (or cares) is hit or miss, no actual way anyone can say how it will end up.
He can start applying elsewhere, once again if he's honest or not is up to him. It may or may not bite his ###. Pretty much up to him how he procedes from here.
I can not stress enough how moving slow and getting out to check when in doubt can save TONS of headaches in the end. Life is not a race.
Small accident?

not going to read all these pages but, they can not take any money from the driver with a his signed permission. my guess they will keep his last checks when he dose not pay. they will miss a check and tell him it was a opps do not worry.....
time for another job, IF they do take money out of his check, CALL the state dept of labor and or wages. make sure he keeps a record of all the work he is doing.
i am in michigan also send me a message if you need help with this and i'll send you my number if your dad wants help with it.
if your dad is being paid with a 1099 there are other issues, but they still can not take his money.Last edited: Apr 12, 2015

that is why drivers are employees and NOT O.O. we do not want the headaches and other problems that come with being a owner. that is why the owner makes more money then a driver. they also know that is the risk they take being a owner.
this is also why companys carry insurance.
you really need to think though what you stated patty. -
$7000.00 might be too extreme ,hard to determine that with just hearsay from his son.But what im more or less saying is driver needs to take responsibity for what he did and learn from it.
truckon Thanks this. -
I had a situation like this happen my dad hit my truck 2 years ago clipped it with a trailer took the bumper out missed the headlight...total bill was a whopping $700 including fender guards and the new bumper and a ton more lights. That company is playing games turn the truck in call it quits and tell them to stick the key where the sun don't shine.
I've hauled for some pretty ###### guys hauling cows but nothing that ridiculous... -
By taking responsibility do you mean paying 2000, paying 7000 or something else?
-
I do think 7000 is very high but the driver should pay something.None of us are perfect we all make mistakes.I've made a few of them and owned up to it.I've paid for damages so it would stay off my record. One time when backing in and inside dock from a busy street in Kansas City I clipped the trailer door and it came off its hinge,I paid for that.I entered a scale from a con gra place and I was too close to the railing and slid off, called a wrecker and I paid for that.Thank god that was the only thing that happened to the trk.I just think if a driver does something and its preventiable he should admit hes in the wrong and offer to pay something.I am surprised this was 7 k that's a bit much.A driver hit me while at a customer waiting in line.He didn't set his parking brk hit my headlite and that's all that I thought was wrong. But once I lifted the hood the entire thing fell apart.I cant remember the cost but I know it wasn't that much.Boss got a used hood and fixed it.There are ways to not have it cost that much. With todays economy ppl are out to for blood no doubt about that.
truckon Thanks this. -
The 1099. That was the first clue. It all went downhill from there.
icsheeple, EZ Money and truckerlife74 Thank this.
