I will admit that I do put on used tires but its only because no matter how many times I warn them about inspections and good driving habits, it seems to go in one ear and out the other.

Even with bad drivers,.. how much use/miles are you getting out of used tires vs new virgin? This was the conundrum I had, trying to find a happy medium between cost and trouble free longevity.
If your drivers are simply not respecting the equipment, perhaps its time to go one of two ways with that. Reward those that take care,.. or punish those that exhibit excessive problems. Eventually a line will have to be drawn and action taken. I could not keep replacing tires and eat down time just because a driver refused to take care of the equipment I gave him. Business is business.
HurstChewy352 Thanks this. -
I do my best to not to turn sharp.

I woke to this the other night. Guy dragged this in at about 2am. I didnt really see what all the hoopla was about. Then in the morning I could see this.
So talk about driver abuse,.. I'd have to strangle someone if this was my trailer. He just left it parked there.

I faced the same issue, buy really good tires and guys were bouncing them off curbs until the carcasses where shot, I went the cheap "new" tire route and started buying Sumitomo's for my trailers (as stated we run a 17.5) no I did not get the life out of them of the Conti, BUT, they were also HALF as much and I didn't have to worry about a retread coming loose. -
Was a plain white van. No name or anything. My guess is he was O/O and that was carrier's trailer. Looked like he hit a barracade or something that decide it wanted to stay put. Guess he decided to find a new carrier or maybe report the trailer stolen... who knows?
I'm right there with you guys. I would be fighting mad if that was my trailer.
Hursttsavory Thanks this. -
by melting spots. i'm assuming your talking about flat spots on the tires. that's going to be a break issue. tire is locking up.
breaks out of adjustment from bad slack adjusters. or warped drums.
i gained a nice flat spot this morning in sacramento. checked all the brakes and adjustment is good. which means warped drum in my case.SGTSmokdU Thanks this.
