Thieves target Freighliners in Tampa Florida

Things like that can happen only in FL. One of my friends once parked in miami area and in the morning his batteries were stolen, they even tried to open a hood but fortunately on volvo hood can be opened from inside the cab only

 

Can happen anyplace not just in FLORIDA thieves are thieves

 

Really?? Mr. Crowder would change your mind on that. Back in the 80's we were in Brooklyn, NY, ended up staying the night in the trucks, idling on cool nights was not an issue then either. Next morning Crowder woke up to wires dangling out of the dash, and he was in the dang sleeper. Thieves are everywhere! All depends on how bad they want it, not so much where they are.

 

This has been going on in Miami area for a few years, I know a guy has been hit twice in Key Largo same truck, it's mostly Detroits and I've heard of a few N14s, another guy I know in my area parked at the Race track gas station in Fla City, went to the restroom when he made it back to the truck no start open the hood and the ECM gas gone.

I can seat here and tell you stories for the rest of the day, a truck parking yard was hit and six ECM where taken than a few months later again they try to steal three trucks even peeled out the name sticker from the door, while on another truck they couldn't get it to start because all the tricks the owner had made to prevent theft, so in punishment to the owner for that, the scumbag resorted to a hammer and destroyed the entire dash, all caught on camera.

the best thing you could do is use four different bolt heads on the ECM and put some JB weld on the thread, but if you need to replace it you have to cut the bolts off, but at least you have more time than the thief.

the worst thing is there's a place where the mechanic shop send you to buy an used ECM and when you get there you see dozen of ECM with the plugs in and the wires cut off, one of the stories is a guy bought am ECM and took it to freightliner to have them reprogram to his vin and serial number only to find out it was the same ECM cut from his truck.

F'n thieves deserve nothing more, nothing less than 1 bullet, somewhere. I hate a thief with a passion.

And at some point, the law grants them more rights than you have after the fact. Everything in this country is backwards, I swear.

Had this happen in our yard two years ago, 4 ECMs gone, 12.7 detroits and N14s, wires cut, whole 9 yards. Now there's someone on site 24 hours a day, with a shotgun and a revolver, along with live streaming cameras. If only these ######## would have taken just the ECM instead of having cut all the harnesses.

Have heard similar reports all through 301, MLK, and Broadway

Luckily, the idiots missed the ECM from my western star, the CAT C16 computer with the original pre-low nox program. Probably would have felt worse if they took this one instead of the other 4 on trucks I'm not using.
