Back to "slowdown in heavy haul"; these RFQ's just came in from an energy company I know had a contract with one of the big names. With less volume, a lot more spot market loads.

Hmmm, I am surprised that you haven't run into MJ. He's normally running between Nelson Brothers and the Long Haul Saloon in Grande ForkYeah, those diehards. Sit in the TV long for20 hours a day, PB&J for breakfast and lunch, Hunt Bros Pizza for dinner, and through the drive thru of WhiteCastle bobtail for a midnight snack. Will PM you when I can.MJ1657 Thanks this.

Good observation, I concur. I roamed around some load boards just recently and saw nothing but dirt. I couldn't believe 3 and 4 axle Lowboy and Double Drop freight was paying close to Flatbed rates...
This year in general and so far, has been the slowest and choppiest I've seen in more than five years. I think elections and cheap oil are playing a big part on this. While cheap fuel is good, cheap oil is not. -
This is April 2015 and the rates SUCK. Oversized SUCK at $1.80 per mile offered. Heavy stuff sucks even more at $1.60 offered from the east coast. I am glad I am not the only one in this position. Hope all you independent dudes are doing O.K.

man I really hate what I learned today. unloading at a jobsite with another lowboy driver. new trailking 50 ton mech neck and a new t800 4 axle 62in aerocab flat top. company outfit. I detached and unloaded, was doing paperwork when I heard all this commotion. his truck was jumping up and down something awful. the fool was trying to slide his 5th wheel with a 349 excavator sittin on it. got out and showed him how to detach that shiny new wagon he had. that's when I learned what is going on with the rates. he was telling me his boss just bought 20 of these trailers and 20 trucks to haul what I haul. now he didn't know the rate but I have my contacts to find out. it is pitiful what they hauled it for! but if this is the caliber of drivers this company is hiring and I am patient. it will come back around.---- I hope!
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Yeah, anybody can haul that stuff how hard can it be? But seriously I hate to see stuff like that happen, rates go down quick when stuff like this happens but are slow to come back.superhauler Thanks this.

this what happened back in 09. every tom, dick, and harry went out and bought a lowboy. next year you could buy a good lowboy outfit at a really good deal. i think if fuel went back up some these cut rate outfits will disappear pretty quick. then I can buy a new preowened trailer for a good deal!
ya think?
johndeere4020 and dannythetrucker Thank this. -
I hope for your sake it gets better, seen the same thing happen in farming a couple of times. I work for a construction company now so I'm insulated from a lot of this stuff but I still hate to see cheap freight.superhauler Thanks this.

I will survive. don't have a note to pay on each month. can take a month or two off if I so chose. and I chose a lot anymore since I had my injury last year.

You mean when Cressler bought them or was there another more recent sale that I missed?
