I'll add to that by if you cut 2" pipe in half and weld it over the corner the chain runs over it and is easier to tighten.

I see that's a front steer dolly, and appears to be compensator steering not drawbar...how do you like that set-up compared to a rear steer?
-
That was my first run with it, so I was pretty busy learning the ins and outs of it. It's a pretty nice set up though. The only thing I don't like is that it's limited to a 20 degree angle on the turntable, any more than that and the beam will start popping welds on the support brackets.
So gotta take turns extra wide, which with a rear steer it tends to turn away from the corner, this will track with the truck. But, my personal preference is for a rear steer. -

I found a picture of one we hauled a couple months back and you can see the angle iron.
DieselDog81, Cetane+ and Sleepy68 Thank this. -
I appreciate it. Once we get done with these loads and I get back to the shop, I'll see it I can't fab up a few taking your idea and the other guys about the 2" pipe together.

DieselDog, What is the story on the beam laying on the guard rail north of Martainsville and south of S curve. The beam is broke in two.
