WELL BACK IN MY DAY....LOL, Who cares. You can use an inside toilet and have running hot water now, LOL. I PREFER AUTOMATICS and am looking for the list of companies who fleets them.

Allison has a true automatic just like the ones in the chevy HD trucks. Paccar just added as a option to there class 8 trucks. As for European truck features there safety standards are more strick then USA . they've been running 6x2 setups past couple decades along with disk brakes. Where just started using them as a option.

In 5 short years it will be as hard to find a manual 18 wheeler as it is to find a manual car today. They will still exist, but they will be a small niche market.
They are developing cars and trucks that drive from coast to coast with NO HUMAN DRIVER AT ALL, and you think an automatic won't work? Too funny. -
I watched 3 part video on you tube about the d12 automated manual transmission and its out right incredible what it can do...it's definitely an improvement from the older automatics.
