I kind of agree with the forum member. Think of it this way; if the 3.55 truck and the 4.11 truck are are having a drag race, the 4.11 truck will get gear bound sooner and have to shift sooner. Because the 3.55 truck stays in gear longer, it powers away from the 4.11 truck while the 4.11 truck is shifting and it might be said that the 3.55's are faster out of the hole.

Keep the 4.11s, "50 miles" on the slab.

so being forced to shift faster due to lower rears means slower out of the hole. i got it. but not really.the analogy does not fit. how long of a drag race is that drag race you reference?

the way I'm thinking why not 4:11 for otr? with a 18 speed there's plenty of gear to pull at hiway speed, seems like the best of both worlds. I'm obviously not correct, that not the norm. can't get my head around that. wear on rear end?

I don't know... Through the intersection I guess. Not sure why the analogy didn't work... Every time you shift you lose ground. I have a 4.33, 22.5 LP rubber, M11, 13 SPD and I think I shift 2-3 times before im through the intersection

You can use 4.11. I have 4.33 in a little M11. Probably get better fuel mileage at lower cruise rpms that's all..... Like 1400-ish

The big hole on an 18 will probably be the same ratio as a 13. On the highway, it's not going to make a difference in cruising rpm. When it comes to top gear cruising rpm, the main game changer is the rear end diff ratio.
