I was late to learn slot cars where a thing and I still thought they were going on until I read your post. That is awesome that you had that kind of relationship with the local at risk kids, awesome that you get a chance to reunite with them!

Also, congrats on the new car HTQ!

yeps that is what I would do. Also, I recommend a laptop driver's log software called "Eclipse Logbook". I have been using it in my new job and it is awesome. All the convenience of elogs, all the flexibility of paper logs. A proper license is $60 but you can run the free trial version to work out times and timelines, then transfer the work over to your paper log at no cost.

Don't wait George. Others here told me time and again, I was staying at TransAm too long. I am now kicking myself that I waited so long. I am making a bunch more money for doing the same job with my new company. Same job but with a lot less hassle.

Out on the road it can seem like a driver against the world. 4 wheelers hate us, police what to ticket us, we have no status with shippers or receivers. We need to have someone at our home terminal who we know has our back. Someone who we can count on. I lost that feeling with TransAm and it almost ruined me for this job. I think you generally have a better attitude to work with TransAm than I did but don't wait, don't let TA grind you down.

Oh my, SRQGhost! .....you need to hurry and get into OTR driving before someone, (Your wife), realizes that you need an attitude adjustment! :biggrin_25522: If we don't hear from you for awhile we will know what happened!

To follow up on my own post. This little cooker is awesome. I am cooking up rice, frozen veg., frozen shrimp or with roasted chicken I got from Hy-vee. Highly recommend to my fellow truckers!

It was a privilege to get to know and love those kids. I learned many life lessons from them .....more than what they learned from me, I think. There was one little boy ....10 years old....He was the best kid. He always paid me with pennies. When I realized that was all he had, I started having him help me .....sweep, pick up, etc.. He was constantly getting in big trouble. I mean big trouble! He was sent to juvenile hall more times than I could count. Finally, I sat down with him one day for a talk. It really wasn't my place to do so but obviously something was going on with this kid. I asked him why he was doing the things he was doing when I KNEW for a fact he was a good person. I will never forget that little ten year old boy looking me in the eye and telling me that sometimes he just needed to sleep in a clean bed and know that he was going to eat that day.

I learned that day that you have to look beyond the smile ......and that sometimes these young people that are constantly in and out of trouble are just hungry little ten year old boys that have no other way of feeding themselves. This boy moved not very long after that and I never saw him again.I hope somewhere across the years someone looked beyond the trouble and saw a child worth saving.

As I sit and wait for another swap 8 hours in Beckley WVa, I have started looking for another company. Put an app in this morning and have talked 3 times with a recruiter so there appears to be preliminary interest. Just gotta wait for the back ground check. Time to move on.

Guess Cranky disappeared, jaso cried a river (hopefully didn't drown in it), panhandle was off trying out some new restaurant, , andpoor ghost is trying to avoid the "wife" voodoo since I don't think he's even married (right, ghost?), and Honeybadger is MIA or trying to crank out the miles. The thread sure has slowed down again....even the queen has been at a loss for words! :yes2557:

Don't know about Flirida, but in NC weather is supposed to be nicer today and high should be 70. We've had a couple of rainy, cool days with temps in the high 50"s. In a few days it's supposed to be in the 80's....not super keen on thay. The 70's is fine with me, but thank God for air conditioning. :biggrin_25520:

    Be safe, All!

I kind of knew early I was going to go with Flash's company but a few of my backup choices included:

For the money: J.S. Helwig & Son ... .40 cpm , plus a 2,500 sign-on bonus. They basically do the same stuff that TransAm does, on a smaller scale and at a higher driver pay rate. Have a past connection with TA, merged (or bought out by TA at one point). Just down the road from TA's Rockwall, TX terminal. You likely see Helwig trucks at many TAs shippers and receivers.

Don Hummer Trucking, Oxford, IA: Have a good reputation, run automatics. Can get 40 cpm with experience however, do it with a lower base pay rate then add several , per mile, incentive bonuses. I thought the bonus system could be ok, drivers say they are attainable and DHT pays them but it is on a quarterly basis. I leave too often on vacations to try to make a quarter system work out.

Just a couple I was looking at, good luck!

"Trans Am Still" .. Is it? Not anymore once your man leaves.

Things change, I sometimes feel disappointed that there is not more activity here. I can not understand why, with 950+ TransAm drivers, this thread is not filled with new blood and many new posts. I have been gone from TA less than 6 months and I don't feel like I can speak informed about TransAm any more. Not with all of the changes there.

This tread has been and still is a great resource! If someone posts in need, the thread lights up with replies. Regardless of the future of this thread, I will remain grateful to the people here who saw me through the tuff times with TransAm and on to greener pastures. Truly THANK YOU one and all!
