Thank you. I thought about it, but I was not sure whether I will lose something quality wise and I do not have decent 4 pin mic.

So, I stopped at CB shop to check the condition of Uniden Grant LT I have and tech told me internal speaker needs to be changed($10) or I can use external one.
The question is should I spend money fixing this radio and buying mic and mounting bracket or just sell it AS IS and look for another CB? What would be your choice? I understand this radio may be better, than "average Cobra 29" or similar, but is it worth it? Any ideas how much it could bring realistically by chance?
I have opened it hoping to see hanging wire next to speaker, but everything looks good.
I plan to use it in my car, so somewhat biggish radio and external speaker seems to be a little bit too much, although I would not have to worry about where to put the radio itself...
Thank you for all of your advises. -
Keep the Grant and use an external speaker. There are plenty of very compact external speakers on the market.
jessejamesdallas Thanks this. -
May I ask why? Is quality of reception/transmission better, is distance larger(if so, what's the average difference?), will it live longer(hopefully)?
-
Or just send it to me!....lol!

Ok, let me rephrase my question, why do YOU need it, why is it better, than Cobra, for example? I am in between replacing speaker and SWR meter light or just selling it... Tech at CB shop I can use it with external speaker as well.

Is the speaker wire just disconnected? You said in a previous post that there was a wire hanging by the speaker. There should be 2 wires connected to the speaker, that could be all that's wrong with it.
Your antenna system is what makes or breaks your cb. That being said, some radios are better than others. The Grant was made for approximately 30yrs, basically unchanged other than the outside, and has been coveted by many as one of the best cb's ever made. A lot of the white noise you get with most radios is filtered out ,so yes, you can hear farther. Also, they are rock solid on sideband, which is why most people want them. You might look into getting an alignment done if the radio has been sitting around for a while.
Just google uniden grant, and read up on them. -
Thank you for your replies.
I was not lucky enough to see disconnected wire from the speaker, everything looks good inside, so if I would decide to keep this radio I would need either fix internal speaker or use external one. Also SWR meter's light is out, that's another 50 cents or buck in parts.
I am kind of in between, but if you guys saying it is worth to keep it, I might do that. I would like to avoid any work on it, unless necessary just out of mentioned here possible "adjustments", which are not necessary or harmful.
I use old style magnet mount Archer 21-960 with RG 63(or 53?) cable. -
Not familiar with that antenna, but I know archer products havent been sold for quite some time, you may consider upgrading your antenna though.
Fix the grant, try it out, if your not impressed you can always sell it. It will sell easier and retrieve more money if everything is working. -
I bought mentioned antenna as NOS(New old stock), meaning it is old, but it was in manufacturer's sealed package, i.e. it was sitting for a while after it was made.
I was considering Sirio 5000, but all things considered decided to go slow, I was not sure whether I would like extra piece of equipment in my car. It seems, like it is ok to have it.
Thank you.
