Ok, ok I've basically been trying to find something that doesn't exist right now. I have gone through a list of sellers already and ended up at Penske, hoping they had some good trucks but they don't, with my budget at least.
Equipment - based on hours of forum emission research, CARB and California city work needs:
- Years: 2011 or newer
**Emissions: Must be CARB compliant - Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), use Diesel Exhaust Flud (DEF) etc
- Make: Freightliner
- Model: Cascadia
- Type: Day cab - 2 to 4 total
- Transmission: Manual (any number of speeds)
- Price: $55-85,000
- Mileage: Up to 450,000
- Engine: Detroit Diesel 13 or 15
So I ended up at Penske because other sellers either had too many miles, no Cascadias, no day cabs, bad trucks (Rig Dig reports say a lot) or too expensive. I just increased the budget by $10-15,000 so hopefully this leads to some freakin good trucks finally. If you have other truck suggestions, please let me know. Like I said, aiming for Cascadias because of the emissions research from different forums.
Sellers List - top to bottom is best to worst:
Werner
Schneider
Con-way
Freightliner dealerships
Truck Country - Appleton
Swift
Pedigree Truck Sales (not sure where this one ranks, no info besides suggestion)
Penske/Ryder

Hate to break it to you. But one 2011 cascadia runs about 88k... depending on miles. For that budget you have to look at 09's with 600k
-
If emissions are the main concern then you should be looking for a deal with Detroit you want it doesn't have to be in a Cascadia.
-
Seems like it would be much cheaper to get a $5-10k day cab and add a DPF retrofit.
-
Yes, much cheaper but I've read online and on the forum that their failure rate is high, like 50%. A lot of buyers are also choosing to buy the newer trucks instead, thats what dealers have told me. It is probably another sign the retrofitting isn't working. -
What's failing?
And the truck dealer selling new trucks is recommending you buy one of their new trucks??......Dark_Majesty_06 Thanks this. -
2011 with less than 450,000
It's going to take you a while to find that. -
211 Cascadia for $88K,,rip off it is only worth about$60,, Just bought two 2012 trucks one a KW 660 and the other a Pete 587,both nice clean trucks w 13spds,, both about 380,000 miles ,,Paid $69,000 for the KW and $72K for the Pete,, both bought from big dealers in the Midwest. Both found in the truck paper..suggest you contact Paccar financial in Salt Lake City,,they have several about the same year and price

I agree, I just got a Volvo sleeper 640, 420k, 2011 for 55k.

The problem with the add on systems, at least the ones I've read about, there's no way to actively regenerate the filter, so it relies totally on passive regeneration. So if you idle, you're going to clog it fast.
