Don't let your employer solicit The United Way corrupt charity and deduct from your pay. Looking at you UPS.

How do you do that? Just say no or turn in a pledge card with 0 on it if you don't want to give. More often than not managers are forced to solicit for things like that and evaluated on the results. Been there done that from both sides of the desk.

Set a goal. Reach goal. Reward yourself.

It has always helped me through the more mundane experiences in my career. Be in it for more than the money. As an owner operator you will take on a truckload of new responsibilities but you will also be given plenty of new freedoms and experiences. Learn everything there is to know, and then some.

I am purchasing, not leasing. I will lease onto Crete for a while. I appreciate your advice. I have had 3 previous businesses and am not going into it blindly. I am a self reliant person you might say. I look at this as a step...
