I will lay out the whole trip and then break it down on how I'm rating it for the customer. Let me know if you would do the run at that price.
Nj-Tn 1 pick 1 drop
unload re-load same dock miles 650
Tn-sc-ga-2 stop fl- 4 stops total 862 miles
Dh 117 miles to other side florida. 1 pick 1 drop back to Nj miles 1,170
Rate:
Nj-Tn $1,495
tn-fl $2,175
fl-Nj $3,275
total: $6,945. Miles 2,799 So looking at 2.48 per mile for entire round including empty miles. I think that's a fair rate for the customer. I'm not trying to kill them on the rate, but I need to make sure I cover enough to make money for the week. I don't wanna up the Nj-Tn rate as we are short on freight for that leg of the run. And don't wanna pick a partial b/c it will throw off the schedule for the rest of the week.
What are your thoughts?
Long round trip trying to rate properly?

Depends on what you're hauling, and what your overhead is. If it's all legal stuff and you're not paying out the nose on a truck payment or something, $2.48 on all miles is fine.
-
I would need to know the timetable, if you can turn it in a week without too much trouble then it seems okay. To me it seems like your rate on the second leg is low, and the third leg may be a bit high.

Give the potential customer one number as in $6945 for the whole trip...obviously you know what the Jersey tolls will be if any better than anyone else so make sure those are accounted for and if you have any turnpike or tolls in FL.
The reason I say give one number is that they will try and knock down the FL-NJ rate first, this way they can't break it down. Depending on if and how good of a current customer this is will determine whether you get it....capitalism will drive someone to do it in the $5600-$6,000 range if they are accepting a good number of bids on it. Good luck and just my .02! -
Yeah, but that's where the freight is on the third leg. I wanna bump the 1st leg a little, see if we can get the customer to take more frieght.
Timetable is Monday through Friday. Everything will be legal except my log book. All legs are 13,000 Ibs or less. My thought is if I can get everything to equal out to $7,500 that would make it a good week. That would put it at 2.68 for all miles turned door to door. I don't have a truck or trailer paymentdannythetrucker Thanks this. -
At $.2.68 in your part of the country, you will easily be underbid. I would split out my FSC as fuel is going back up now. If it is a reefer load, don't forget to split that out as well. Just a thought.

Did the round this past week. Did it for $7,575.82. Customer was happy and I was happy with that rate. All freight was under 14,000 Ibs and spent $20 in tolls. Did it in four days. Everything was legal except my log book.
Cetane+, baha, Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this. -
