Hello Cfloyd, was just reading your tread about jones. I worked for a o/o yrs ago that was lease with jones and I've never had a problem with them but I was a co. driver then and now I'm leasing a truck with ats and don't like it here to much and was just wondering how you are making out and if you are still with jones ? I'm new to o/o side of it but been driving for 29 yrs most of it fb/sd and trying to get my own truck and try my hand at it .
Thanks for any info. you can give me at this time. safe riding driver be careful -
I am interested in the same question as above.

Jones or Mecer? Mostly looking at southeast to northeast Fb, who's the better company?
-
Scottackert: IMO I would go with Jones. Mercer used to have a good name, but if you look at the freight rates, it seems Mercer has gone way down on theirs in order to get the business. I've talked to many of each company's O/O's and Jones has higher paying freight. Never talked to a Jones O/O or fleet driver who didn't like them.

Thanks for response, I'm also looking at landstar out of j-viile fl, been in this for 34 years but 28 have been super tankers here in new york, company sold so no more need for o/o's

Keep in mind, I think Landstar is mandatory electronic logs. If you go with them, you'll have to find out which agents have the good paying freight because some of them don't know how to rate it. Just like anywhere else, you have to find the right people who respect the drivers, know how to rate freight and aren't afraid to come back to the customer for more $$$ when you're delayed or end up having to do more work.

Thanks, I got a lot of thinking to do, I knew this business had gone down hill but to listen to all the comment's out here, just wanted to finish my last years with a decent company but I must have been shelter'd

Just reading on this a few other threads about JMC..I just left Mercer due to health issues and could not keep up with trailer lease payments. Mercer's rates have dropped a good bit within the two years I was there. Often times wound up running for 1.70 or 1.60 a mile. I prefer 2.00 and up obviously and was able to do that when I first started kbut it fell off pretty bad after this last winter.
Looking at Jones now, can anyone tell me about the trailer rent or lease plans? Also are they still paper logs?
I really need to make good money but also have to be home. 2nd kid on the way
Thank for any and all info!!!
