I am new to Sni as a whole. My 6 months service (or survive) with Sni Bulk is coming up. Bulk is extremely slow right now after the transition into workflow. I have been bring home 5, 6 hundreds a week for a while now. Can't support the family with that. I've been reading posts about the Sni Choice program and very interested in moving over. A friend of mine (also my TE) recommend I should come in the van side as a company driver first for maybe a month or two before starting the lease with Choice (I totally understand the idea behide his suggestion). My problem with that is I've been told that I need DBL approval every time I transfer. So if I do what my TE suggest then I am gonna need the approval from my current dbl and later when I go to Choice, I am gonna need approval again from the van dbl, plus the transition time twice. So my main question is: Is the risk too great to start directly with the Choice program without being the company driver on the van side. All comments will be appreciated. Have a good day, all. Be safe out there.

huge risk. Choice is a business run by you. With only 6 months exp and all of that in bulk , I think you would be setting yourself up for failure.

My suggestion is to find a good dedicated account on the van side. Good hometime, consistant checks etc. Its better if you have had the van experience, while driving like you are paying for fuel etc. Practice in running your business.

Where are you based out of?

When we went through the WF transition, it sucked big time. Frnkly i am surprised that it has been similar experience on the bulk side. Might have thought SNI would have learned a few things and corrected the vast amount of mistakes on their end. It IS a learning curve. THEY have to learn a whole new system with many many different steps on their side.

Have you had a convo with your dbl? why or when it will get better for you pay wise?

I am from Houston. I drove van for USX five years ago if that even counts. You think Costco account is good? I talked to dbl several times, he doesn't have a clue when things gonna get improved. We lost quite a few contracts on the bulk side.

I don't know but when I put my zip code in the sni job site, that costco job came up along with some family dollar accounts.

SNI would want to see at least 6 months of van OTR experience before you go to choice. Which really isn't enough time, I'd recommend around a year. I know I wouldn't have been ready at the 6 month mark. Don't think they will let you on or let you lease a truck if you don't have that. To be blunt there are some that really succeed and others that fail at it... pretty hard, lol. It's not an easy gateway to good money by any means, regardless of how it appears from reading this section of the forum. The guys that are posting here are the ones that are successful. The ones that can't make it work just disappear off into the abyss and you never hear from them.

Most company drivers that I talk to on dedicated accounts are, fore the most part, happy. If I drove company again that is what I would do. Some dedicated accounts have lots of manual labor involved, others not so much... make sure to get ALL the details.

Is it true that SNI bulk lost a LOT of customers due to the workflow transition? That's what I heard and would explain why it was so slow. It's really too bad because everything I heard about SNI bulk was great, especially for new drivers looking to do a little more than just sitting in docks.

I will call SFI and ask them again but the last time I spoke to them, they said they will accept my 6 months on Bulk as well. The main reason we lost contracts was because sni lost track of their trailers after workflow trans so we missed the appt time for live load or dropping off for preload, upset the customers.
DFO, I am following your other thread since you moved to Choice. Are you still doing good income wise? How long have you been with it now? About a year right? Problem with me owning my own truck is I am not a mechanic type person. What type of break down not cover by warranty and on average how much would those break downs will cost me? Thanks.

Bulk was slow when I was there, and that was even before workflow. Granted, I ran bulk during the winter which is the slow months. However, there's no excuse to have to sit for 2 34 hr restarts a week

I'm doing fine. Been running on this board for just over a year and a half now. Your best bet would be to lease a new truck if you really want to do it, then the warranty should cover most breakdowns. I don't know the details on the warranties though I've never had a new truck.

Anybody know if they still only do orientation for Choice in Green Bay and Charlotte only or have they add Dallas to the list?
