There are more truck buyers buying New Glider Kit Trucks with factory rebuilt CAT and Detroit engines to avoid the new high maintenance emission engines in factory new trucks,,
Got an email from my Pete dealer telling me that New Jersey is cracking down on Glider Kit Trucks that don't meet new emission regs and that in Maryland A new 2014 Glider Kit with a 2003 engine would not pass a Maryland State Inspection because the it was titled as a 2014 but did not have 2014 emission systems on it.
I am sure that in the near future the EPA will out law the practice, Last year there were several dealers and a couple of companies like Fitzgerald out of Tennessee that built and sold over 2000 kit trucks last year,
A couple of years ago JB Hunt bought 200 new glider kits with pre-emission engines installed. I bet if there was some kind of weird sex involved or illegal immigrants were building them it would be OK

I said that Calif, MD and NJ can go......(*$&^%) themselves.

But, that's just me.Dominick253, mitmaks, Woobie and 1 other person Thank this. -
Im thinking that in time its gonna be like california everywhere , where you will have to have emissions trucks.
browndawg and OldHasBeen Thank this. -
It's coming to a state near you. The fed will slowly figure out ways to make gliders unattainable through FET, and licensing laws. If states will not pass carb laws, our government will figure out how to move forward with their carb regulations with out them.

New Jersey has no restrictions on emissions that I'm aware of other than no idling if your truck isn't equipped with a DPF.
Perhaps they are being more vigilant in checking to make sure trucks idling actually have one. -
Most states are cash strapped as it is and could not afford to fund a CARB bureaucracy even if they wanted one so I doubt we will see carb regs spreading.

Funny stuff. I know two men who build gliders in.........where.....NEW JERSEY!!!! There are no more stringent regs in NJ than existing Federal regs; and none in the hopper. This kind of rumor-mongering doesn't do any of us any good.
Don't like gliders? Fine. Don't buy 'em. But don't piss and moan and spread rumors.Dominick253, rocknroll81, Boardhauler and 2 others Thank this. -
Not a rumor got it straight from my Pete dealer in Maryland,,NJ had one of their customers with a glider towed,,
As far as FET is concerned the IRS has a reg. about paying FET.
Skirting the FED EPA regs and having a new truck is what the gliders are all about,,
I don't spread rumors,,I only tell facts,, been a truck owner and carrier for over 35 years,,, -
So the popularity of gliders in the '70s was all about skirting EPA regs? That's interesting...spyder7723 Thanks this.
