Well, my 2014 now has 252,000 miles. It has had EGR valves replaced twice. One EGR cooler was bad the first time as well. The second time both EGR coolers had failed with the valves. Both times it failed it was winter. The only time I have issues is if I run for a while the shut the truck off for 10 minutes or more. When I start the truck after that cool down, I have to let it idle 2 minutes then raise the RPM to 1100 to get the oil pressure up over 40psi. Only then can I progressive shift without any issues. If I don't do this, the truck spudders like it is choking. Knock on wood, the new cytrifical oil filter they put on the 2014 seems to keep the soot out of the DPF. NEVER had a regen light of any kind EVER on this truck.

A full blown EGR and both cooler failure by the way cost about $5200 and 36 hours at a good shop.

This truck doesn't use any oil and gets 7.2 mpg without too much effort. I have gotten as high as 8.2mpg at 59mph in Indiana. I would consider buying a 2014 next year knowing what I know. The motor is solid but the EGR will fail every 12-18 months. Catch it quickly and hopefully the coolers don't fail as well.
The MaxxForce is so worthless, International will give you almost whatever you want to get those trucks off their inventory. The 2014 is the only MaxxForce I would consider, with the caveat that ever 12-18 months I'm spending $5200 on EGR. FIRST one would be under warranty that is left on the truck hopefully. The cost is somewhat off set by how cheap the truck will be compared to 2014 Cascadia next year. $55k versus $80k.

Look at the difference 4 months make about the condition of a truck.

Your post in January said that this was a solid truck.

Oh yea. Had my second EGR and cooler in Feb. Still like the truck and hidden value though. $5k annually would be a tough thing to justify if it sold at the same price as a Cascadia next year but it won't.

The MF is and was a true POS. But I see good comments here about the ISX. However on the radio everyone talks about cam lobes being weak. Is that a bunch of bull? Most of the newer engines all have problems with the dpf/scr systems. Some worse than others. No wonder O/Os consider gliders.

The ISX tends to have more DPF issues than EGR. 2012 and 2013 anyway. I bet with an OPS bypass oil filter on it that would lessen the DPF Issue.

I don't think there is any connection with DPF problems and a better oil filtrations system.

Soot in the oil plugs up the main filters and causes oil pressure to drop. This causes the engine to not burn right and make more soot for the DPF to handle till that plugs. 2014 MaxxForce went to a cyntrifical oil filter to handle the soot before they finally gave up on the MaxxForce. Cummins has no bypass filter had has always had regen issues prior to going to DEF.
