I am currently enrolled and attending at Roadmaster in Tulsa, OK. I have completed my first week of classroom and have obtained my permit at this time. :)

I was never declined from them, I've actually never put in an application because I've heard they were a bad company to go to. So far every company ive done a pre-screen with has accepted me except TMC.

oh okay, it appeared differently like all you had was Stevens and Werner. I got confused when you said UsXpress is a no go.
Well if you've been accepted elsewhere post the companies here.
Stevens and Werner are pretty much as low as you can go.

At the community college I attended over 10 years ago we were getting nervous wondering if anyone would hire us. About 2/3 through the class trucking companies came out of the woodwork wanting to hire us. Be patient and avoid the bottom-feeders,...there are many different options in trucking and right now is a particularly good time to be looking. Pre-offers mean practically nothing and are really just a way to hook you and keep you from thinking about something better.

I may not have a choice of where I go. Five years ago this next month (June) I made the terrible choice of celebrating my Birthday at a bar with friends. Something I've never done! If I do drink it has always been at home. Bet you can guess what happened eh? That's right! I not only caught a DUI but wrecked my car in the process. It was a solo accident (lost control on a gravel road - going faster then I thought I was) and no property damage.

I've been having difficulty continuing to work in an office after spending 3 years on the road with my other half. The 4 walls seem be closing in on me and have been waiting patiently while the last 5 years have slowly gone by. I've tried to hold out as long as I could before starting the school and worked on timing it so that the 5 years is not long after I graduate. Problem is the recruiter with the school said I might have to go with a company that allows for 3 years since the DUI due to a year of financial probation I had to do. I didn't see a probation officer during that time but just paid a fee because I moved to another state not long after this happened. So it would be 4 years since I completed everything associated with the DUI not 5.

With all that said, I'm afraid I might have to work with one of the "mills" everyone is talking about. :(

I'm hoping beyond hope that my entire driving record will be considered of my 20 plus years of being out on the road in 4 wheels. And that a decent company will take a chance on me and not hold one wrong decision against me.

Hope it works out for you. The DUI under those circumstances doesn't seem like a deal breaker to me but I'm not a recruiter. I don't see why a 'mill' would hire you and another company wouldn't?

insurance, cost of insurance, insurance. Higher insurance risk equals higher insurance cost, equals lower wages to the driver. Other companies will not hire the greater risk, to keep their costs down.

Because the mills and other large companies are all self inusured, they right thier own rules.

Any smaller company that has to buy insurance wont touch you.

    Just fyi.

My brother in law says the same thing which is why I figure I'll have to go with one of the mills to get my feet wet and to prove I am a safe driver.
