LMAO you guys are funny...
Like I said I'm cool with learning and safety things that are relevant to my job.
This whole hazmat thing didn't make any sense to me though.
Since I've been in driving school, getting my license.. first two trucking jobs I've done absolutely nothing involving hazmat. Since I've been at Schneider I've done nothing involving hazmat during my daily job activities. Nor has the thought or question of hazmat even arose.
5 months ago in orientation they drilled hours of hazmat stuff at me and now there's more?
I remember even having to answer questions about placarding a load which will never even happen because I don't have the endorsement to be even able to do that.
If a company wants to pull something out of a hat to teach it's drivers repeatably I think they can find something more relevant to it's drivers at least. Then again Schneider is a mega and that alone should answer the silliness.
For all you bring up "what if" twilight zone scenarios please be honest.. how many of them actually happened to you during your time at Schneider and you were like "OH MAN thank goodness for those Schneider hazmat lessons"?
Serious question..

I've picked up loads that had hazmat but not enough to require the placard or the endorsement.
It's also not unheard-of for shippers to put hazmat on a load and not tell the company until the driver notices it on the Bol but if the driver doesn't look for it or doesn't know what to look for then it's never noticed.
Besides DOT say all drivers must be trained in Hazmat. They don't say drivers must carry the endorsement.ipogsd Thanks this. -
Running over some basics is fine but they hammer us with info like we have an endorsement.
So much is made of safety safety safety but one issue that's never brought up or drilled into us is inspecting trailers and/or reporting problems with them.
Not just here but when I was with Crete it was the same thing where it was a problem.
Soo many times I've saw trailers with issues like big issues where most likely the previous driver just didn't report it or the company didn't do anything about it. Too many drivers are going down the road with screwed up trailers probably because they know if they report it then it's time/money they'll lose
I can understand why to a degree but that isn't the answer through... already once Schneider tried to make me take a trailer (preloaded at a shipper) with stuck tandems and two missing pins to repair shop when they said themselves to not legal and safe to be on the road with it.
Another time recently I was sent to a customer just for an empty.. the told me they had no empties I said well they Schneider said you have one and it's trailer number ######. Oh that trailer they said.. that one has been here for two weeks broken and we keep telling Schneider and they haven't done anything about it.
That's a whole different story sure. I guess the answer to all us this is it's just the nature of the beast.
If you play the game you gotta take the good with the bad.Last edited: May 21, 2015

They drill the Hazmat into us because the cbts are the same whether company,IC whether you have an endorsement or not it would not be cost effective to have seperate tests for individuals.
We may not like it but we do have a CHOICE.
Either comply or find somewhere else to drive. -
There's BS no matter where you go.
There's no such thing as the "best company".
There's things I don't understand and perhaps agree with which I was questioning.
But I'm still happy and that's all that matters. -
Much drama in your life?

Anyway...having the haz mat tests like like this isn't bad to begin with. ..I think it's always a good idea to keep up with the ever changing regulations concerning hazmat...at least sni does it..most Co's could care less...

These quarterly cbt's are so easy and insignificant, that whie I it have running in the background I am also logged into the forum complaining about how time consuming and hard they are!

I did it, it wasn't the same hazmat stuff as in orientation thankfully.
Glad I had a refresher to know when to placard a bulk hazmat load.. cause you know I'll be doing lots of that being I don't have a hazmat endorsement. lmao
