Well they treated me well. Made great money but on that Thursday, I quit on that Friday, I was dispatched on a load that was supposed to be my home time load but was going into a neighborhood I did not feel comfortable going into in a truck. I asked if I could instead do a delivery for the P&G that I usually do for my home time. Was told it's the only load they had. I told them I was not against waiting for a load going into the area but that I would not do the load going into the neighborhood that I know isn't the greatest from growing up in the city.

From there I was informed no I could not wait, I had to do the load. And if I did not do it, to take the truck to the closest terminal. Well I try to be a man of my word when I say I'm going to do something and I do my best to follow through. I was not changing it due to the fact that I said I wasn't doing the load.

I was asked to call in to talk to the manager of dispatch, I stated everything I needed to say was on the qualcomm. They instead called me, I wasn't trying to be a nuisance but I didn't answer because I know what companies do when they say call them. Sure enough when I called back I was given the, do the load or turn the truck in routine. I told them I was not and I didn't appreciate my job being threatened. We went back and forth. Guy wouldn't work with me and finally he disconnected the call.

My dispatcher then messaged me and asked if I would do the load. I told him I would not and told him I needed the truck windshield repaired due to cracks. (The reason why I left that Friday instead of the same day.) Well I then spoke with the maintenance guy and me and him get along well. He tells me to hold tight while he tries to find a place to get the windshield replaced. While doing so I was told in order to get the truck repaired I could take it to the terminal and get it fixed. Was told that maintenance guy stated that's where it would be fixed.

I, knowing for a fact that the yard could not get the windshield fixed stated I wanted to speak to the maintenance again because if the terminal could fix it why didn't he tell me I could get it fixed at the terminal?

Was told that maintenance guy indeed told dispatch to tell me to go to terminal. I told them I wouldn't move until after I spoke with him. After an hour or so he did call me and told me to drive from Albany GA to Tifton GA to a Volvo winshield shop. That's over 100 miles away. So the next day I did. Saw a hotel next door that wasn't the greatest but I had a lot of things in the truck and knowing that unless they took the load off of me and gave me a pineville load it would be my last day. So I checked in a room, got all my things out of the truck. Fueled it up with fuel and def, I wanted to wash it but by that time they told me to do the load or return the truck once again so I left the flying j and headed back to the terminal. Cleaned up what was left, informed shop of other things that needed repairs and got a cab back to Tifton for a greyhound bus back to Louisiana that Saturday morning.

Always amazes me that companies would rather lose a driver and not get a delivery done than just accept some people are not going to put themselves in a position they don't feel is safe.

We all have had to deliver in some areas that aren't that great, that's part of trucking. It's not like they asked you to go spend the night in the hood. I would have fired you too.

    Hey New Trucker48,

Can you give me a little more info regarding the orientation process? I am wondering exactly how the DOT drug test process goes.. Do all have to drive together to the testing locationg or am I able to drive myself? Also, what time did you get to Care Spot Tuesday and was there anyone watching you?
