I always enjoyed reading Kurt Vonnegut. He had a very creative mind, he was ahead of his time.
I completely forgot about that book. As the old saying goes,"Truth is stranger then fiction".

President and COO Richard Stocking reassured drivers that “we are not watching the driver

I ask then why bother having driving facing cameras to begin with

    From the article.
Basically the fear factor. People are more likely to behave in a manner they know they shouldn't when they think they can't be observed. Just having the camera there will help keep people on their best behavior.

Also, when something like a hard brake triggers the camera to save footage it will be easier to identify if the driver should have been able to anticipate the situation or not. Just stick them in a truck and then use technology to identify where the wheel holder could use some training.

IMO it's the result of the desire to fill the seat with any warm body vs. selecting and training those who are more likely to be responsible behind the wheel.

Why you?, why me?, why anybody? Because that's the way the moment was structured...

You are welcome sir, I am glad to know there are still people in this world that read and think.
There is so much knowledge available, but so few that are willing or interested to seek it out.

The day they put a camera in my truck to watch me is the day I quit. If they want a test run then let's try it in the owner's bedroom and bathroom first. A lot of accidents happen in there you know.

Soo..using the fear factor to maintain control? Doesn't that sound familiar..seems like there was a book about that or a political system that uses it. Hmmm...
