Glad you are seeing the benefits of the CPAP. Crete paid for my test, and paid out the machine 25 bucks a week until paid, 1000 I think it was. For all you folks who are 'afraid' and keep making negative comments about sleep apnea, you might should be a bit wiser. Sometimes technology can save lives. Here is a fine example of such. "Sleep apnea" is caused by the little flap in the back of the throat; the flap covers the windpipe, and as you breathe, it 'flaps' ,,,making the snoring noise. Let me ask you this; do you EVER wake up yourself or your wife, with a 'kick',,,a jolt,,,a 'set up in bed and fall back down' type of thing when you are sleeping? THAT is 'sleep apnea'. You have quit breathing. Unconsciously, obviously, since you are asleep. Your brain isn't asleep though. It is wide awake, and starving for oxygen. And the brains 'fires off adrenaline into your heart', thus you 'kick', jump,,,etc. THAT is what the 'kick' is.
3 nights into having the machine, I 'unconsciously' felt that flap open up in my throat...and it started training to stay open, ever since. I rarely snore now in the 5 years of having this machine. I don't have to take naps in the middle of the day. I am overweight about 23 lbs. It keeps oxygen in your blood. You will be ontime more often than late, fwiw. You will be in a better mood, and it is easy on your heart. IF you snore, kick, jerk, jump up,,,etc when sleeping, and BOTHER your partner, YOU HAVE SLEEP APNEA. Quit being a Bozo by saying 'not for me'. it can save your life. I had a quad bypass, and this thing keeps me tickin' . I love it.

I love the fact that it benefits people. As I've said in other posts i used to work in healthcare. It was part of my job to follow up with patients but also answer questions.

So I've seen first hand the benefits.

Prior to testing, I had no symptoms whatsoever. My issue is being overweight, my neck size is between 15 and 16 inches. Sni flagged me on this and I was required to take the test and use the machine.

I barely tested positive. I personally have many reasons to believe my test to be a false positive.

Use of the machine for me has caused more issues for me than anything I've ever done. When using the machine I actually have the issues you've described above as well as health issues like heartburn, headache, inability to focus and a few others. Unfortunately, getting any of the "health professionals" at ppd to hear my plea for help has been next to impossible; to them I'm just one more uneducated driver that thinks it's a load of bs.

It isn't so much a complaint about the therapy itself, I know it works. You may have been speaking to others when you said to quit complaining because it does help, but at the same time drivers are being taken advantage of in one way or another.

Same here....I was half dead without the bipap (a cpap for half dead guys like me. My apnea is brain related and throat related, it is called complex sleep apnea. My machine uses such high pressure the straps have to be very tight.). It saved my life and bc/bs paid on it.

You're honestly in the minority then. Not even kidding. You ask most of these places who hasn't walked out with one and they'll tell you they don't know of anyone.

I believe it is the blood oxygen level that is of concern. Granted that stopping breathing will drop your blood oxygen level, but each person is different. Seems to me the "sleep study specialists" are quoting the wrong number.

Unless there is a direct correlation in most of the population throughout this nation.

    ...Lol.

    I wouldn't be watching this thread if I hadn't. :p

(Yes, I have. I've also started a few other threads on the subject.)

Unfortunately, even though mine was a marginal positive, they stuck me with a cpap machine.

Is there a criteria the testing centers use to determine who needs to take the test?. I could have sworn one of the parameters was a neck size larger than 17 inches, but a few of you seem to have been given the test with a smaller necksize.
