I doubt you'll bring home 4 to 5k every week so be prepared.

As a team you'll do good as far as miles but the problem is you have not even got your CDL yet. SNI will not let you do choice until you've gotten experience.
I know reading these posts sounds like it's easy but it's not.
Why anybody without sufficient experience is even worried about the choice program is beyond me.
why is it drivers can't get sufficient experience then worry about becoming a o/o.
Good luckTDFair, drvrtech77, Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this. -
LOL I see two threads here with people with no experience wanting to drive for Schneider for no reason other than "I can get my 6 months experience in as a company driver and be an owner operator making the big bucks!!!!".

Peter,
I'm going to point something out directly that a couple other posters have hinted at. If you and your wife are just getting your CDL's and entering trucking the last thing you should be considering is getting into leasing, O/O or whatever you want to call it too early in your career. It is a big step to take AFTER you have at least a year experience and probably more as a company driver, learning the ropes.
I will say up front, I am not a driver. Trucking is a second career plan for me as I retired from my first career. I am in the planning stages like you and trying to learn everything I can before I even get my CDL and go with a company as a COMPANY driver. I have been reading this board and others for over a year, speaking with my brother who is a 10 year driver, watching countless trucker you-tube videos etc...You name it. There is a lot to learn when you first start out. It has been said that the first year in trucking is the worst and is the primary make or break time for new drivers.
It will take awhile to figure out what you are doing, how to manage your time properly to maximize your earnings and a multitude of other issues. Adding in all of the additional tasks you must manage with leasing a truck to make it work on top of that is not something anyone should do when they have not thoroughly learned the basic job of truck driving yet. Let the company worry about all of those business things while you acquire experience and confidence.
In my opinion you and your wife could team as company drivers and get experience. If after you have that experience and you both feel like you know what you are doing then you can explore that option. Company Team drivers will make more money than a solo company driver will if utilized properly so you will still have good money coming in.
I agree that Schneider's Choice program seems to be very worthwhile to those who can manage the business side of the job. It might be too good because I am getting the impression it may be getting too popular for its own good from some things I read. I am interested in it too but only after I completely and confidently know what I am doing as a company driver.
Food for thought.mickeyrat Thanks this. -
Use company driver time as school for o/o. Drive thst truck like you are paying for fuel.

What i'm doing is call preparing for our future. Before we go to SNI;we want to have 1 year of OTR.I'm just getting our ducks in a row.I'm just asking the gods of the road for some help.
-
That's what i have been doing and asking for advice from the trucking gods.
Schneider's Choice program is the best thing for people who want to make some real money.
We have over 32,000 -50,000 maritime cargo containers. That come in each day and that's not counting in house. My mom has had her CDL for 35 years.I know it want be a walk in the park, but the money you can make.Would help out a lot. -
1)We call SNI and they said we take people with 6 months experience.
2)It's plenty of jobs! So if someone ask you for some advice.Be kind and give them some help.
My wife wants to go SNI with 6 months experience and i want to do 12 with $10,000 down for a new truck. But we might go in at 10 months. -
