I have my DOT physical Tuesday. I have to get it every year due to Blood Pressure meds. Not worried about it.

    Hey Softail,

I need your name to put as a referral for a Schneider job I'm applying to. I heard somewhere that drivers get $$ if they refer someone that gets hired. Figured it should be you since you've answered most of my questions. I'm applying to a specific job/route for Schneider. If this specific job/route is not available by the time they check out my app, I may not go with them. If it does happen, I'd like you to get the $$. Let me know if you're interested. I tried sending you a PM earlier but don't know if you got it or not. Still trying to figure out the new forum format. You might want to PM me your name so as to keep your name private. Never know who might be 'lurking' here. Haha!

knuckledragger- Thanks. I PM with the info. Good luck. Keep us informed on the job.

Yesterday 189 miles. On Sunday 5/31 122 miles. Left Rice Hill and parked at the Walnart in Woodburn until my appointment at 01:00. Got done with live load at 04:00. Headed to Portland OC to get clearance light fixed on trailer. Got message from DBL saying market soft in WA, OR, and NorCal right now. Was paying detention to drivers who were sitting.
New pre assignment was to P/U relay at the OC and take the live load 141 miles to Tacoma for a 08:00 appointment today.

Unloading now and then home for a few days. About 25 miles today.

Only got the year DOT card due to BP also warhippy. Dr wants me to lose 10-15 Lbs and said BP will fall back into place.

Well, after a 20 day break I will be back on Monday. Sure have to give SNI credit to work with you in family emergencies.

Softail, thanks for writing this thread. It's been a great insight into what western 11 looks like. It sounds like you do a lot less trailer hunting than DieselFuel does over in the SE states. Longer miles too. I think I'll avoid going back east. That's worked well for me so far as a general life-guideline.

    A couple questions:

What other companies were you looking at when you picked schneider? Did anyone compete when it comes to home-time? Any regrets?

How often do you wind up on I84 through Idaho, or coming up from NV via jordan valley?

I'm looking hard at schneider because of their advertised weekly home time. If the freight is here, good time management could mean plenty of lunches with the wife, and 10 hours at home here and there in addition to actual home time.

Almost forgot: Is there a company drop lot in Boise? They're hiring within 50 miles, but I only see PDX and SLC when I google schneider.

Thanks again for posting. I hope things are well with your family.

Greasethrumb- I listed pros and cons of companies that I had interest in. Gordon(GTI) from Pacific WA and Knight Transport, a small flatbed company(20 trucks) from Auburn WA since there were both local and SNI. Once Gordon's was bought out by Heartland, they were taken off my list.

Zero regrets so far. SNI was the right decision for me. They dont't micromange me. I talk to my DBL about every 2 weeks unless something is load related.

Home time has never been an issue. Put your time in when you want to go home and they will get you there. If you need to be home on a certain date for a family function, message your DBL and they will get you there.

Home weekly may be a new dedicated route. Anytime you can sneak a extra day/night at home, it is great. Anytime I am near Sumner/Seattle, I spend the night at home.

Getting from Jordan Valley to Boise can be a hit and miss. I didn't see NV or ID for several months, than I was there twice in 3 weeks. It depends on the freight. Not aware of any yards in Boise. They may be opening a new drop lot or renting space someplace near Boise. That would be nice if they did.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the wishes.

    That does help. Thanks man.

I know knight is out of the running , and GTI is just another company offering a bad two weeks out to go along with the bad reviews. May TC is here too: same deal. Maybe a good local will come up on Craigslist, but that's not likely for new OTRs

I guess if schneider is hiring Boise, they must be relaying through there, or have some dedicated customers. Either way means I don't make my wife a road-widow. I'm living just off the highway a couple miles, so the missus and I can meet up if I'm headed through from any likely direction.

Have you looked into the Choice program any more? Last I saw, they only took OTR drivers, not regional, but I'm curious if they look at western 11 experience the same as OTR.

    Landog Thanks this.

Choice will take most drivers with at least 6 months experience. It make no difference if you were W11 or OTR. I still gathering more info before I decide to jump.

291 miles today. P/U MT in Sumner and drove 11 miles to Auburn for a live load. After loaded, I headed 279 miles to Spokane for a live load tomorrow at 08:00.

I will only be out for 6 days this time before I back for another 9 days of TAH.

Made it to Spokane last night. Get to my 08:00 appointment and they tell no appointment was made. Crap. Call DBL. He will look into it. They tell me since no appointment made the earliest I can be unloaded is 13:30, if they unload me today at all. We will see.
I should have known this place was going to be a pain. At the shipper yesterday, they said if I lost the BOL, they would not allow me on the property. Have not lost a BOL yet. Get to gate to check in and told to go put long pants on since I was wearing shorts before I can get onto property. They also wanted want all plastic and aluminum can removed from truck and put in a "secure" area. As I drive through gate guard comes out and stops me to make sure I put long pants on before entering property. All righty now.

Going to be a fun day.

Well, finally got to a dock at 12:15 and out by 14:00. Whew.

New pre assignment is to go across the street for a live load at 15:00. Take load 276 miles to Everett for another live load.
