I understand your profit issues but I'm in a Company truck and not having issues with miles. I've been staying pretty much east of I-35 the last couple months though. Been steady at 2800-3400 a week.
I usually don't refuse a load unless it's hometime or too much time for delivery. I would flat out refuse the loads you describe as well. I'm a driver, not a babysitter. As a Company ##### they always find something else for me pretty quick. I don't have to worry about DH miles like you guys do.
I sometimes think the planners throw short haul too much time loads on me just to see if I'm stupid enough to accept. I have no problem saying no.
Hope things get better for you.blsqueak Thanks this. -
Waverly, NE.
And, no loads out of here.
No pplans and nothing on Mac 30, so I called a planner who sent a message to a planner in 'my area'.
Then I get a pplan picking up on Monday (it's Saturday night...) at 0800 - 2 hours away - and delivering 550 miles away by midnight the same day.
Sorry but I can't do that in 11 hours of driving.
I call that planner (in Edwardsville, KS) directly and she tells me of 2 other loads, both of which were just as bad for other reasons - like 600 miles over 2.5 days.
So I guess I have the day off tomorrow. I'll wait and see if something better comes up on Monday.
And I'm actually in Lincoln at a very small Sapp Bros. off the main highway.
The place is full, but even at 80-90 degrees and very humid I'm the only one idling to stay cool. Everyone else has gone elsewhere for the weekend it seems. So I was told by the girl inside.
No freight for anyone around here.
Oh well.
On the bright side I get to try out a new flavor of Linux on my daughters computer tomorrow.
I am using her computer as a test machine to see what I want to use on mine, because I am sick of the Windows Wagon - yet again. Even more so with the W10 rollout.
I put her on Linux because I can't afford to buy a new copy of Windows for her old computer that I just got running again, not to mention the programs she wants to use.
She is totally thrilled with Gimp (a free program that rivals Photoshop).
Ubuntu was the first, and next we'll try out Mint. -
On a load out of Springfield, MO headed for TX. Pplan said the weight was 23k, I don't find out until I'm signing paperwork that it's really 46k. There goes my mileage. Hope the prepass is with me today, in 220lbs under 80k and just barely legal.
Btw, I generally take most loads. But after this one I'll be at 1200 miles for the week and looking at a negative settlement.
I'm close to putting this 2016 T680 with a fridge on the o/o market and taking a job as a yard dog somewhere.
Time will tell, my contingency plan is now in effect. Lol -
How long have you been doing lease with swift? I remeber when u came on but I forget how long it's been....sometimes taks awhile coz learning curve is different for everyone....

When you ask for S. Cal or west coast, and here's your reply, "I have nine trucks due home time needing to go west...they will be planned before you," it makes you toss the arms up in surrender. I don't want to slow anybody from getting home. I know this isn't what being an o/o is about, to not be in direct control of his revenue and lifestyle. Yes, folks...a trucker would have it good in the real world, booking his loads and never losing sleep for lack of knowing when that next preplan will hit. Had a planner tell me once..just shut the volume off and ignore the preplans until you wake up. I simply said to her "you have no idea the pressure we have to NOT lose out on a profitable run, do you?" to which she replied after a brief pause "you're right.......I'm really sorry." So even the planners have a heart occasionally and understand the dilemma we face.
Not that I should complain, as I already accomplished my weekly endeavor to cover the bills, so far. Left home and dead headed to Lewiston bound for OKC load. Emptied out this morning...had plenty of loads offered that had a Lord's plenty of time attached, to which I declined and waited. Committed to a short haul straight down I-35 to Dallas area under a presumed light trailer and 50% deadhead. It will be Monday again on delivery, so I am depending on my DM to get me out of there before nightfall.
Oh, and I ate at Huddle House in OKC yesterday afternoon.... I feel terrible.HousTank Thanks this. -
Counsel Bluffs, IA at TA.
Got a load that picks up tomorrow going to KY the next days.
So I have Father's Day off with Leann.
We installed Linux Mint on her computer a couple hours ago. Very nice, indeed.
A well polished interface that is very easy to use and a good software manager. It comes with several programs and codecs pre-installed, which makes everything a lot easier.
I think that will be the distro that I put on my computer. -
The T/A in Wheatridge. Whole bunch of trucks here. Just finding a place to park was a joy and this at 3 in the afternoon. Lost my load to Amarillo. System took it off me saying that I was running late. That is fine with me. Then Mac 30 loads, a Sears 323 miles to SD for tomorrow afternoon, Denver to Grand Junction, 240 miles for live 1300 tomorrow, beer load to NE, 203 miles for tomorrow morning.

At a service plaza a couple miles from the I-80/90 eastbound split going into Cleveland.
Finished my potato load this morning to a farm outside of Toledo. Of course after they hoisted and dumped the potatoes out the back there was 1/2" deep layer of talcum-like potato dust and dirt throughout the trailer.
Called my ECT and asked for a PO to have it washed out enroute to my next pickup in Cleveland tomorrow morning. Was promptly told "Swift doesn't pay to wash out trailers!!" My reply was "Neither do I!!" The next load is already 7 days late being picked up and will be 10-11 days late by the time I get it to Laredo but they're worried about a wash out.
Was told they'd mssg a planner for another trailer. That was 9 hours ago and I havent heard #### from anyone. I'm not asking again. I'm taking this trailer to the customer and fully expect they'll refuse to load it. Maybe Swift will make a move then. At this juncture I'm having a hard time caring since they don't either.
I'm pretty much fed up with having to pester support people to do their ####ing jobs. Jerry needs to get out in the World and do another Undercover Boss and see just how pathetic things are getting out here.Last edited: Jun 21, 2015
