rapid city?
just another driver needs a babysitter

Dropped my QVC load in Maumee (I guess its pronounced like Mommy) OH then picked up aluminum siding load in Beach City (hah) headed back to NC down the street from our terminal. Due on Tuesday but will drop in the morning. Flipping back to nights as I stopped at 1630 and left more than 2 hours on my clock. But I was tired and I won't drive tired. After I drop, will head over to Sara Lee for more bread going back to Disputanta VA (Richmond area) a carbon copy of last weekend. But hey, they are keeping me moving, exclusively drop and hooks, but the miles aren't adding up. 1853 last week and fighting for 2000 this week. Of course, going home every week impacts that. Can't have everything. Might have to stay out 10-12 days at a time. We'll see.

George if you have a DM that is approachable
you can feel him/her out on if the company is mostly a mon-fri operation if they are not set up for big miles on weekends you might find you stay out all weekend for not enough miles
transversly it might just be the break in period on learning how a new driver runs
good luckwulfman75, jungHo, gntorres61 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks Pete! Yeah definitely shorter trips on weekends but 6-800 miles is not too bad for Sat/Sun, ya think?
HometimeQueen Thanks this. -
only you can decide if 6-800 miles is more important then being home
if you get a 800 mile trip on a friday and unload it on a monday you have 4 days tied up into it by thenHometimeQueen and Panhandle flash Thank this. -
Happy 4th of July, Everyone! Good luck with your CA run, Scott. Y'all be safe out there. CY, enjoy your home time!
HometimeQueen Thanks this. -
It usually takes a little while to figure out a new company and how they run, George. Every carrier will have slower times depending on what they haul, it takes some time with a new company to figure all of that out. Once you do, you will be able to plan around those times to maximize the home time/paycheck ratio. Summer time is generally slower, I think. Also, I believe that the economy is sluggish right now .....it is taking more of the working person's pay for necessities and leaving less discretionary income to buy other goods. After starting out with reefer, going to dry box and now fuel tanker, I am getting an education in the economics of the way that goods move around this country.Trucking is a 600 billion dollar a year industry that is totally controlled by pennies ....and it is amazing how much of an effect those pennies can have.
.passport220 Thanks this. -
the price of fuel is pretty interesting depending what discount your company gets
you see these corner gas stations with cheap prices compared to pump price at say Flying J
but even a small outfit like ours works cost plus with these big fuel stops
even then prices fluctuate daily I have seen Sapp Brothers in Salt Lake $.18/gal lower then anywhere else in UT
I figure since i have been changing my fuel stops I have been saving the company $100 every round trip to Ca
the pennies add up quick
as pinching pennies on some stuff costs you
like cheap tiresHometimeQueen, Panhandle flash and passport220 Thank this.
