Exactly if fuel is hitting your bottom line that hard you really need to rethink some aspects of your current business model.

Another thing to look at is insurance expense. If you have a new truck that's worth alot it will cost you more on insurance vs an older truck that's not worth as much. That difference could be alot or a little. I don't really know. Never had a truck newer than 2002.

Older trucks are designed to generate money for the operator. Newer trucks are designed to generate money for manufactures, finance companies, dealerships, and then the operator.

This post is funny must be a l/p guy if you have to worry about fuel that much then your not making enough and what you save in fuel your losing in payments plus some. Also as a driver i'd much rather drive a old long hood and pre emission motor then any of these new trucks.

    ???
Even "old trucks" were once new, they were not designed old.

Bruce, one thing most of these guys aren't saying is that they are driving the truck that they want to drive. Being an O/O is a business, but it's your business, which means you can do it the way you want to.

The truck in my avatar is a 2015 t660, my first brand new truck, after being an O/O for 12 years I went and got the truck that I wanted. Sat down with my salesman and specked it out the way that I wanted it, and yes I specked it out for fuel economy cause that matters more to me now than how fast I can get to the top of the hill. But the main reason I got the T660 is because I like them, I like the narrow cab and I really really like this studio sleeper that I'm sitting in right now. Always wanted one but thought they were to heavy until I sat down and specked it out, found out it wasn't as heavy as I thought so I ordered it, because it's what I wanted.

Larry you are right. I drive what I want to because I can. I like the looks, the feel and the ride I get. This is my office. As such I want it to be as "cool" and comfortable as it can be. Being an o/o means I can do what I want to because the buck stops with me. Noone else...
