I can definitely see the value of living in the Carlisle area. Schneider is dominant in this region. Two of my buddies work the choice board and live in Carlisle/York PA areas. They routinely Net $2200 and are home DAILY! Pretty sweet life if you ask me. My issue is the weather and lifestyle here. My days off are usually spent going to the gym and lounging around the house doing chores and yardwork. Not much else to do here in the mountains/valley. Financially speaking this is the best place to be if working Choice. But the beach town, Florida coast life is very attractive, and my wife being from there, as well as all of her family, makes it a tough decision.
Georgia to VA pays what, like 1.25 a mile?? That's not good obviously but once I get to VA couldn't I then run into the northeast at a much better rate? Then flip it and head back down?

Then again there is a lot of good accounts in the Charlotte NC and S Carolina you could tap into..

No that was between 2 loads out. Load in paid 2.11 in from WI. Coming out I took a load from GA 1.96 a mile. Second was a 2.37 mile but after Dh it all averaged 1.55EddieForHire Thanks this.

Thanks for your input Tennman. I used to see your truck parked in Carlisle OC. Always wanted to come over and meet you but assumed you were asleep and didn't want to disrupt your sleep. You live in Eastern TN right?
1.55 average is not bad at all, but WI to FL and then DH out to grab a load is a 3-4 day deal. I know I could move to JAX and work choice successfully by staying out 2 weeks or more at a time. But I'm trying to find a good balance between work/home life. Do you think I can net at least $1200 a week from FL while getting home 2 nights a week and taking weekends off? -
Northern Georgia has good rates, Southern Georgia sucks.

Sometimes you can get lucky. I've seen loads in Georgia paying $3 going into Florida.
The key is just not to go down there for cheap. -
That's pushing it.
Remember this is an OTR job.
In some markets like around Carlisle you can do well and be home a lot while still making good money.
But still again this is an OTR job.
The more often you spend thinking "how am I gonna get to this place" vs "how am I gonna run most profitable" is a huge financial difference.
There's a reason Schneider requires OTR experience for choice.EddieForHire and xlsdraw Thank this. -
Very good point. Living in Carlisle me and my other trucker friends have become spoiled with all of this local freight that pays really well.
-
I wouldn't go anywhere.
If I could live anywhere for this job and make the most money it would be Carlisle. -
Nope not a chance.
I'm not sure why people think it's that easy.drvrtech77, rickybobby and freightwipper Thank this.
