What about the sixteen hour cap? I understand you can drive for a total of thirteen hours and be on duty but not drive for an additional hour for a total of 14 hours however you can not work after sixteen total hours (from first on duty) and will need eight consecutive hours off before you are allowed to drive. So if you start at 8:00am by midnight you are required to take at least eight hours off.

I am still in school so I am still trying to figure this out

All the limits only relate to actual driving. In theory, you could complete your driving time as long as within the 14 or Canadian 16 hour window, then go to work doing anything other than driving and you are legit. You could load trucks for the next 150 hours straight and not be in violation so long as you take the required time off duty before driving again.

Disclaimer : I'm old, and right now, tired and cranky.

If you're qualified to become a member of an on line forum ( computer savvy) , why wouldn't you be qualified to 'Google' search: Hours of Service - Trucking - Canada - USA.

This is NOT an attack on 'cooldaddy'.

But why do on line trucking forums CONSTANTLY see threads about hours of service ..... and why is each thread so heavily debated ????

Here's my answer to ALL the hours of service threads out there in cyber space :

Drive until you get arrested by the cops, or the trees !

If you take out someone in my family, in the process, I will take YOU out in the most merciless fashion your nightmares can imagine !

    ^^Great reply!!

My question is how do most drivers not get ticketed by the diesel bears when they get a check up?? These rules aren't difficult to follow and learn ---- how to bend lol.
