I drive barefoot 98% of the time and in sandals 1.5% of the time sneakers or shoes .5%. I typically only wear shoes when I'm fueling, going into a truckstop or into shipper/consignee.
The key to trucking is keeping yourself comfortable during long periods of driving. So I dress for comfort and this includes (lack of) footwear.

y'know - this brings up a side topic that caught me completely off guard - despite of research before I started this career: Driver apparel. Not footwear - I think I've already posted on that. Specifically, I'm amazed at the number of drivers wearing shorts. This is a good thing, for me, since I have a lot more shorts than I do long jeans (6:1 ratio - gotta do laundry every week)
Fortunately, most of us don't look completely insane in shorts - though some fishbellies are probably jealous.
I was all set to be the odd-man out, and - in this regard, at least - I'm one with the crowd. I don't know if my ego can take it. -
